Verse 32 from surah Ar-Rad

﴿وَلَقَدِ اسْتُهْزِئَ بِرُسُلٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَأَمْلَيْتُ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا ثُمَّ أَخَذْتُهُمْ ۖ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عِقَابِ﴾
[ الرعد: 32]

13:32 And already were [other] messengers ridiculed before you, and I extended the time of those who disbelieved; then I seized them, and how [terrible] was My penalty.

Abridged Explanation of the Quran

You are not the first messenger to be rejected and mocked at by his people.
The communities before you, O Messenger, mocked at their messengers and rejected them.
But I gave respite to those who rejected their messengers until they thought I would not destroy them.
Then I seized them after that respite, with various forms of punishment.
What do you think of My punishment of them? It was really a severe punishment!

Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali

And indeed (many) Messengers were mocked at before you (O Muhammad SAW), but I granted respite to those who disbelieved, and finally I punished them. Then how (terrible) was My Punishment!

Walaqadi istuhzia birusulin min qablika faamlaytu lillatheena kafaroo thumma akhathtuhum fakayfa kana AAiqabi

Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation

Mocked were (many) messengers before thee: but I granted respite to the unbelievers, and finally I punished them: Then how (terrible) was my requital!

But despite their wickedness, I put their punishment in respite, then I cast them down from a position of prosperity and power and brought them to ruin, and how unbearable was the retribution
