﴿إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَئِهِ فَاسْتَكْبَرُوا وَكَانُوا قَوْمًا عَالِينَ﴾
[ المؤمنون: 46]

23:46 To Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were arrogant and were a haughty people.

Abridged Explanation of the Quran

I sent them both to Pharaoh and the noblemen of his people, but they displayed arrogance and did not submit to believing in them.
They were a people who imposed themselves upon people by subduing and oppressing them.


Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali

To Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, but they behaved insolently and they were people self-exalting (by disobeying their Lord, and exalting themselves over and above the Messenger of Allah).
