﴿فَقَالُوا أَنُؤْمِنُ لِبَشَرَيْنِ مِثْلِنَا وَقَوْمُهُمَا لَنَا عَابِدُونَ﴾
[ المؤمنون: 47]
23:47 They said, "Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are for us in servitude?"
Tafsir Ibn Katheer in EnglishSo they said, “Should we believe two humans like us, who have no superiority over us and their tribe ( the Israelites ) are submissive and obedient to us?”
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves, and their people are obedient to us with humility (and we use them to serve us as we like)."

Faqaloo anuminu libasharayni mithlina waqawmuhuma lana AAabidoona
Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation
They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves? And their people are subject to us!"
Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri
They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves, and their people are obedient to us with humility!"

(23:47) They said, "What! should we believe in these two men who are human beings like ourselves40-a and whose people are our bondsmen?" *41

*41) Abid is worshipper. According to the Arabic usage, to be a "worshipper" and a "bondsman" are almost synonymous. Therefore when the Prophets invited their people to worship Allah alone, they wanted them to worship and serve and obey none but Allah, and that is the real significance of the word " `ibadat".
