Quran 11:51 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn

O my people I do not ask of you any wage for it for the affirmation of His Oneness. Lo! my wage falls only upon Him Who originated me created me. Will you not understand?

Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim

My people, he added, I do not charge you a price for the divine message I relate to you; the reward for divine service is incumbent on Him Who created me and brought me into being. can you not reflect

Quran 11:51 Tafsir Ibn Kathir

The Story of Prophet Hud and the People of `Ad Allah, the Exalted, says, و ( And ) This is an introductory to what is implied: "Verily, We sent." إِلَى عَادٍ أَخَاهُمْ هُودًا ( to the `Ad (people ) their brother Hud.) Hud came to them commanding them to worship Allah alone, without any associates.
He forbade them from worshipping the idols which they made up, inventing names as gods.
He informed them that he did not want any reward from them for his sincere advising and conveying of Allah's Message.
He only sought his reward from Allah, the One Who created him. أَفَلاَ تَعْقِلُونَ ( Will you not then understand ) Someone has come calling you to what will benefit your situation in this life and the Hereafter without asking for any wage ( from them ).
Then he commanded them to seek the forgiveness of the One Who is capable of expiating previous sins.
He also commanded them to repent for that which they may do in the future.
Whoever has these characteristics, Allah will make his sustenance easy for him, grant him ease in his affairs and guard over his situation.
For this reason Allah says, يُرْسِلِ السَّمَآءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَاراً ( He will send you (from the sky ) abundant rain,)

Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi

(11:51) My people! I seek no reward from you for my work. My reward lies only with Him Who created me. Do you not understand anything? *56

O my people, I do not ask meaning

*56).
This is a very eloquent statement which also embodies a very weighty argument.
The Makkan unbelievers had summarily rejected the Prophet's Message without even seriously considering it.
This was indicative of the fact that they did not use their brains.
For, had they used them, they would certainly have been impressed by the veracity of the Prophet ( peace be on him ) and the truth of his teachings.
For here was someone who had gone through immense suffering in the course of his calling his people to the truth and in sincerely counselling and admonishing them.
Again, it was quite evident from all the Prophet's activities that there was no intention of seeking any benefit for himself or his family.
The conclusion was very clear.
Such a person must have had a very strong reason to be totally convinced about the truth of his faith.
For it is in the cause of his faith that he had renounced all his ease and comfort, eschewed the ambitions of material prosperity, and ventured to undertake the perilous task of challenging the beliefs, customs and ways of life which were so deeply rooted in the history of his people.
Such an undertaking naturally exposed him both to the hostility of his own people and to many others.
It is obvious that the teaching of such a person could not have been so flimsy and trivial as to be casually cast aside without giving it even a serious thought.

Tafsir Maarif-ul-Quran Mufti Muhammad Shafi

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs

( O my people! I ask of you no reward ) no price ( for it ) for believing in Allah’s divine Oneness. ( Lo! my reward is the concern only of Him who made me ) Who created me. ( Have ye then no sense? ) do you not believe? Are you not possessed of the same mind that human beings possess?

Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali

"O my people I ask of you no reward for it (the Message). My reward is only from Him, Who created me. Will you not then understand?
