Quran 7:86 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn
And do not sit in every path every route threatening terrifying people by seizing their garments or by charging them excise tax and barring driving away from God’s way from His religion those who believe in Him — when you threaten to kill them — and desiring that it seeking that the path be crooked. And remember when you were but few and then He multiplied you. And behold what was the end of the agents of corruption before you for denying their messengers that is behold how destruction was the conclusion of their affair.
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
Nor lie in ambush he added, in every paths threatening those of you who have conformed to Islam, obstructing the path leading them to moral straightness and uprightness, goodness and integrity, virtue and piety, making it your aim to pervert the truth and crook the path of righteousness to your own ends. Remember when for once you were a small minority and how Allah made you multiply and reach the status of a majority, and look how fatal was the consequence of those who were characterized by acts of prepensed malice
Quran 7:86 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Prophet Shu`ayb forbade his people from setting up blockades on the roads, saying,
( "And sit not on every road, threatening," ) threatening people with death if they do not give up their money, as they were bandits, according to As-Suddi.
Ibn `Abbas, Mujahid and several others commented:
وَلاَ تَقْعُدُواْ بِكُلِّ صِرَطٍ تُوعِدُونَ
( "And sit not on every road, threatening." ) the believers who come to Shu`ayb to follow him." The first meaning is better, because Prophet Shu`ayb first said to them,
( "on every road..." ) He then mentioned the second meaning,
( "and hindering from the path of Allah those who believe in Him, and seeking to make it crooked." ) meaning, you seek to make the path of Allah crooked and deviated,
( "And remember when you were but few, and He multiplied you." ) meaning, you were weak because you were few.
But you later on became mighty because of your large numbers.
Therefore, remember Allah's favor.
( "And see what was the end of the mischief-makers.
" ) from the previous nations and earlier generations.
See the torment and punishment they suffered, because they disobeyed Allah and rejected His Messengers.
Shu`ayb continued;
( "And if there is a party of you who believes in that with which I have been sent and a party who does not believe," ) that is, if you divided concerning me,
( "so be patient" ) that is, then wait and see,
( "until Allah judges between us," ), and you,
( "and He is the best of judges." ) Surely, Allah will award the best end to those who fear and obey Him and He will destroy the disbelievers.

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
( Lurk not on every road ) that people use ( to threaten ) and beat, scare and take the clothes of strangers, ( and to turn away from Allah’s path ) from Allah’s religion and obedience ( him who believeth in him ) in Shu’ayb ( Jethro ), ( and to seek to make it crooked ) and seek to make it other than what it is. ( And remember, when you were but few ) in number, ( how He did multiply you ) in number. ( And see the nature of the consequence for the corrupters! ) see how was the end result of the idolaters before you through destruction.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
"And sit not on every road, threatening, and hindering from the Path of Allah those who believe in Him. and seeking to make it crooked. And remember when you were but few, and He multiplied you. And see what was the end of the Mufsidun (mischief-makers, corrupts, liars).
