Wa-itha tutla AAalayhim ayatuna qaloo qad samiAAna law nashao laqulna mithla hatha (surah Anfal: 31)

﴿وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتُنَا قَالُوا قَدْ سَمِعْنَا لَوْ نَشَاءُ لَقُلْنَا مِثْلَ هَٰذَا ۙ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ﴾
[ الأنفال: 31]

Wa-itha tutla AAalayhim ayatuna qaloo qad samiAAna law nashao laqulna mithla hatha in hatha illa asateeru al-awwaleen

wa iżā tutlā 'alaihim āyātunā qālụ qad sami'nā lau nasyā`u laqulnā miṡla hāżā in hāżā illā asāṭīrul-awwalīn

English translation of the meaning

And when Our verses are recited to them, they say, "We have heard. If we willed, we could say [something] like this. This is not but legends of the former peoples."

جب ان کو ہماری آیات سنائی جاتی تھیں تو کہتے تھے کہ “ہاں سُن لیا ہم نے، ہم چاہیں تو ایسی ہی باتیں ہم بھی بنا سکتے ہیں، یہ تو وہی پُرانی کہانیاں ہیں جو پہلے سے لوگ کہتے چلے آ رہے ہیں "

And when Our Verses (of the Quran) are recited to them, they say: "We have heard this (the Quran); if we wish we can say the like of this. This is nothing but the tales of the ancients."

Dan apabila ayat-ayat Kami dibacakan kepada mereka, mereka berkata, “Sesungguhnya kami telah mendengar (ayat-ayat seperti ini), jika kami menghendaki niscaya kami dapat membacakan yang seperti ini. (Al-Qur'an) ini tidak lain hanyalah dongeng orang-orang terdahulu.”
