Verse 63 from Hud in Arabic

﴿قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِن كُنتُ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّي وَآتَانِي مِنْهُ رَحْمَةً فَمَن يَنصُرُنِي مِنَ اللَّهِ إِنْ عَصَيْتُهُ ۖ فَمَا تَزِيدُونَنِي غَيْرَ تَخْسِيرٍ﴾
[ هود: 63]

Qala ya qawmi araaytum in kuntu AAala bayyinatin min rabbee waatanee minhu rahmatan faman yansurunee mina Allahi in AAasaytuhu fama tazeedoonanee ghayra takhseer

qāla yā qaumi a ra`aitum ing kuntu 'alā bayyinatim mir rabbī, wa ātānī min-hu raḥmatan fa may yanṣurunī minallāhi in 'aṣaituh, fa mā tazīdụnanī gaira takhsīr


English translation of the meaning

He said, "O my people, have you considered: if I should be upon clear evidence from my Lord and He has given me mercy from Himself, who would protect me from Allah if I disobeyed Him? So you would not increase me except in loss.

He said: "O my people! Tell me, if I have a clear proof from my Lord, and there has come to me a Mercy (Prophethood, etc.) from Him, who then can help me against Allah, if I were to disobey Him? Then you increase me not but in loss.

Dia (Saleh) berkata, “Wahai kaumku! Terangkanlah kepadaku jika aku mempunyai bukti yang nyata dari Tuhanku dan diberi-Nya aku rahmat (kenabian) dari-Nya, maka siapa yang akan menolongku dari (azab) Allah jika aku mendurhakai-Nya? Maka kamu hanya akan menambah kerugian kepadaku.

Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran by Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi

(11:63) Salih said: 'My people! What do you think? If I had a clear evidence from my Lord, and then He also bestowed His mercy upon me, who will rescue me from the punishment of Allah if I still disobey Him? You can only make me lose even more. *73

Qaala yaa qawmi ara`aytum in kuntu `alaa baiyinatim mir Rabbee wa aataanee minhu rahmatan famai yansurunee minal laahi in `asaituhoo famaa tazeedoonanee ghaira takhseer

*73). Prophet Salih (peace be on him) makes it clear to his people that if he were to follow the advice which they offered him, it would virtually lead to his perdition. Were Salih (peace be on him) to act contrary to his conscience and in opposition to the knowledge and guidance intimated to him by God, he would be liable to God's punishment, and his people would be helpless in their efforts to rescue him from that punishment. Moreover, Salih (peace be on him) was not an ordinary person but a Prophet. This made his dereliction in the sight of God even more grave. For, God would take him to task on the grounds that although he had been encumbered with the duty to direct his people to the right way, he had consciously led them to error.
