وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا(1)

 Pelo sol e pelo seu esplendor (matinal),

وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَاهَا(2)

 Pela lua, que o segue,

وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّاهَا(3)

 Pelo dia, que o revela,

وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَاهَا(4)

 Pela noite, que o encobre.

وَالسَّمَاءِ وَمَا بَنَاهَا(5)

 Pelo firmamento e por Quem o construiu,

وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَاهَا(6)

 Pela terra e por Quem a dilatou,

وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا(7)

 Pela alma e por Quem aperfeiçoou,

فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا(8)

 E lhe imprimiu o discernimento entre o que é certo e o que é errado,

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّاهَا(9)

 Que será venturoso quem a purificar (a alma),

وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّاهَا(10)

 E desventurado quem a corromper.

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَاهَا(11)

 A tribo de Tamud, por suas transgressões, desmentiu o seu mensageiro.

إِذِ انبَعَثَ أَشْقَاهَا(12)

 E o mais perverso deles se incumbiu (de matar a camela).

فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ نَاقَةَ اللَّهِ وَسُقْيَاهَا(13)

 Porém, o mensageiro de Deus lhes disse: É a camela de Deus! Não a priveis da sua bebida!

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنبِهِمْ فَسَوَّاهَا(14)

 Porém, desmentiram-no e a esquartejaram, pelo que o seu Senhor os exterminou, pelos seus pecados, a todos por igual.

وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَاهَا(15)

 E Ele não teme as conseqüências.
