﴿وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَخَذَهُمُ الْعَذَابُ وَهُمْ ظَالِمُونَ﴾
[ النحل: 113]

16:113 And there had certainly come to them a Messenger from among themselves, but they denied him; so punishment overtook them while they were wrongdoers.

Abridged Explanation of the Quran

And a Messenger from among them, whose honesty and truthfulness they knew - who was Muhammad ( peace be upon him ) - had come to the people of Makka, but they denounced him along with what Allah had revealed to him.
As a result, Allah’s punishment of hunger and fear came on them whilst they were wronging their own souls by associating partners with Allah and rejecting His Messenger.

And verily, there had come unto them a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) from among themselves, but they denied him, so the torment overtook them while they were Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.).

A Messenger who evolved in their midst was sent to them with the spirit of truth guiding into all truth, but they denied Our message and accused him of falsehood. In consequence, they came within the measure of Our wrath and were made to suffer for their perpetual iniquities

(16:113) A Messenger came to them from among themselves but they treated him as an impostor. At last a torment overtook them while they had become guilty of iniquity. *112

*112) That habitation has not been specified here nor have the commentators definitely pointed out which that habitation was. However, there is a saying of Ibn `Abbas (which seems to be correct) that the place referred to is Makkah itself. In that case, "hunger and fear" will mean the famine which prevailed over the people of Makkah for several years during the Prophethood of Muhammad (Allah's peace be upon him).
