surah Muminun aya 77 , English translation of the meaning Ayah.
﴿حَتَّىٰ إِذَا فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًا ذَا عَذَابٍ شَدِيدٍ إِذَا هُمْ فِيهِ مُبْلِسُونَ﴾
[ المؤمنون: 77]
23:77 Until when We have opened before them a door of severe punishment, immediately they will be therein in despair.
Tafsir Ibn Katheer in EnglishUntil when I opened a door of severe punishment on them, they became hopeless of every ease and good.

Until, when We open for them the gate of severe punishment, then lo! They will be plunged into destruction with deep regrets, sorrows and in despair.

Hatta itha fatahna AAalayhim baban tha AAathabin shadeedin itha hum feehi mublisoona

Until We open on them a gate leading to a severe Punishment: then Lo! they will be plunged in despair therein!
Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri
Until, when We open for them the gate of severe punishment, then lo! they will be plunged in despair.
We try our best to translate, keeping in mind the Italian saying: "Traduttore, traditore", which means: "Translation is a betrayal of the original text".

They persisted in wrong -doing until We closed the gate of mercy in their faces and opened the gate of torture and put them to torment (that they may be brought back to their senses) But to the contrary. they only nursed despair which led to recklessness and to heedlessness arising from despair

*73) The Arabic word mublis is used for one whom frustration makes so desperate and obdurate that he dces not hesitate to resort to any crime. The Devil has been called Iblis for the same reason.
