surah Jinn aya 9 , English translation of the meaning Ayah.
﴿وَأَنَّا كُنَّا نَقْعُدُ مِنْهَا مَقَاعِدَ لِلسَّمْعِ ۖ فَمَن يَسْتَمِعِ الْآنَ يَجِدْ لَهُ شِهَابًا رَّصَدًا﴾
[ الجن: 9]
72:9 And we used to sit therein in positions for hearing, but whoever listens now will find a burning flame lying in wait for him.
Tafsir Ibn Katheer in EnglishAnd that we in the past used to assume positions in the sky from where we could hear what the angels were deliberating, and then we would convey this to the fortune-tellers on earth.
Now things have changed.
Anyone of us who now tries to listen finds a flaming fire ready for him.
When he goes near, it is released on him and he is burnt by it.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation
'We used, indeed, to sit there in (hidden) stations, to (steal) a hearing; but any who listen now will find a flaming fire watching him in ambush.
Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri
`And verily, we used to sit there in stations, to (steal) a hearing, but any who listens now will find a flaming fire watching him in ambush.'
We try our best to translate, keeping in mind the Italian saying: "Traduttore, traditore", which means: "Translation is a betrayal of the original text".

Long did we sit peering deep into heaven to spy what is being said or discussed in the heavens realm. But now he of us who endeavours to pry into the realm is followed by a fiery celestial body and suffers annihilation
