English - Sahih International

16:94 And do not take your oaths as [means of] deceit between you, lest a foot slip after it was [once] firm, and you would taste evil [in this world] for what [people] you diverted from the way of Allah, and you would have [in the Hereafter] a great punishment.

Tafsir Ibn Katheer in English
Abridged Explanation of the Quran

Do not make your oaths a means of deception thereby allowing you to trick and deceive one another, following your desires - breaking them whenever you wish and fulfilling them when you wish.
If you do so your feet will slip from the straight path after being firm on it.
You will taste the punishment on account of your deviation from Allah’s path and your misleading others from it and you will receive multiplied punishment.

Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali

And make not your oaths, a means of deception among yourselves, lest a foot may slip after being firmly planted, and you may have to taste the evil (punishment in this world) of having hindered (men) from the Path of Allah (i.e. Belief in the Oneness of Allah and His Messenger, Muhammad SAW), and yours will be a great torment (i.e. the Fire of Hell in the Hereafter).

Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation

And take not your oaths, to practise deception between yourselves, with the result that someone's foot may slip after it was firmly planted, and ye may have to taste the evil (consequences) of having hindered (men) from the Path of Allah, and a Mighty Wrath descend on you.

Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri

And do not make your oaths a means of deception among yourselves, resulting in the slip of a foot after it was firmly planted, and you taste the evil of having hindered from the path of Allah, and you will suffer a terrible punishment.

Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim

And do not carelessly use your oaths among yourselves to practise deception lest ones foot should slide and lose its hold after it has been holding in a stable position and you suffer the evil consequence for precluding Allahs spirit of truth from guiding into all truth and you suffer the torment laid upon the damned

Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran by Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi

(16:94) And (O Muslims,) do not make your oaths the means of deceiving one another lest (someone's) foot should slip after being firmly fixed *95 and you may suffer the consequences of debarring other people from the Way of Allah, and undergo a severe torment.

And do not take your oaths as [means of] deceit between you, meaning

*95) That is, "Someone, who might have been convinced of Islam, seeing your dishonest conduct should become disgusted and hold back from joining the Believers" .For he might argue like this: "As these Muslims are not much different from the disbelievers in their morals and dealings, there is no reason why I should join them. "

And do not take your oaths as [means of] deceit between you, meaning in Urdu
