﴿وَإِذْ قَالُوا اللَّهُمَّ إِن كَانَ هَٰذَا هُوَ الْحَقَّ مِنْ عِندِكَ فَأَمْطِرْ عَلَيْنَا حِجَارَةً مِّنَ السَّمَاءِ أَوِ ائْتِنَا بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ﴾
[ الأنفال: 32]

8:32 And [remember] when they said, "O Allah, if this should be the truth from You, then rain down upon us stones from the sky or bring us a painful punishment."

Abridged Explanation of the Quran

Remember when the idolaters said to Allah that if what Muhammad brought was true, then He should rain rocks down from the sky to destroy them, or bring them a painful punishment.
They said this going to extremes in their denial and rejection.

Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali

And (remember) when they said: "O Allah! If this (the Quran) is indeed the truth (revealed) from You, then rain down stones on us from the sky or bring on us a painful torment."

Waith qaloo allahumma in kana hatha huwa alhaqqa min AAindika faamtir AAalayna hijaratan mina alssamai awi itina biAAathabin aleemin

Remember how they said: "O Allah if this is indeed the Truth from Thee, rain down on us a shower of stones form the sky, or send us a grievous penalty."

And remember O Muhammad when their pride and insolence got the better of their prudence and they said: O Allah, if this is a divine discourse revealed from Your heavens realm, then pour down upon us from the floor of the vault of heaven a rain of stones or a rain of large blows

(8:32) And also recall when they said: 'O Allah! If this indeed be the truth from You, then rain down stones upon us from heaven, or bring upon us a painful chastisement.' *26

And [remember] when they said, "O Allah, if this should be the meaning

*26). These words were uttered by way of challenge rather than a prayer to God. What they meant was that had the message of the Prophet (peace be on him) been true, and from God, its rejection would have entailed a heavy scourge, and stones would have fallen on them from heaven. Since nothing of the sort happened, it was evident that the message was neither true nor from God.

And [remember] when they said, "O Allah, if this should be the meaning in Urdu

اور وہ بات بھی یاد ہے جو اُنہوں نے کہی تھی کہ “خدایا اگر یہ واقعی حق ہے اور تیری طرف سے ہے تو ہم پر آسمان سے پتھر برسا دے یا کوئی درد ناک عذاب ہم پر لے آ"
