99 Names of Allah – Asmaa ul-Husna

الله: The One and Only God, the Supreme Being worthy of all worship, to Whom all creatures turn in times of hardship and need, the Creator and Sustainer of all that exists, the Most Sacred Name that none else bears.

الرحمن: The Most Gracious - the One whose mercy encompasses all creation in this world and the Hereafter, a name exclusive to Allah Almighty.

الرحيم: The Most Merciful - the One who bestows His special mercy upon the believers, favoring them with His grace, guidance, and paradise

الملك: The Sovereign Lord - the One who possesses the absolute, perfect, and eternal dominion, which never ends, fades, changes, or passes away. He is the True King, to Whom all necks bow, and the heavens, earth, and all within them submit. He disposes of His kingdom as He wills and rules as He desires. Whatever He grants His servants is a temporary, transient, and perishable dominion. All His servants are submissive to Him and subdued under the authority of His kingdom. Nothing remains except His dominion, glory be to Him: (The Day they come forth nothing concerning them will be concealed from Allah. To whom belongs the dominion this Day? To Allah, the One, the Irresistible!) The evidence for the name Al-Malik is His saying: (So exalted is Allah, the True King).

القدوس: The Most Holy - the One who is free from all imperfections and purified from every flaw, who possesses all attributes of majesty, perfection, glory, and beauty, who is transcendent above any description that does not befit His majesty; all creation are in need of Him, and He bestows upon them generosity and kindness; His beautiful names are sanctified; He sanctifies whom He wills and chooses from His messengers and creation whom He wills.

السلام: The All-Peace, The Source of Peace and Safety - The One who is free from every imperfection, deficiency, and affliction; the Self-Sufficient from all creation; He who grants peace and security; the One who is exalted above fear, weakness, and humiliation; He who bestows security upon His believing servants on the Day of Resurrection and admits them to the Abode of Peace (Paradise) where they are safe from death. He is Peace, from Him comes peace, and to Him returns peace. His servants and friends are safe through knowing Him, having no fear nor grief. The evidence for this name is His saying: 'He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Peace, the Giver of Faith, the Overseer, the Exalted in Might, the Compeller, the Superior. Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him.' [Al-Hashr: 23]

المؤمن: The Giver of Security - He who grants safety and security to His servants, and affirms the truth of His messengers

المهيمن: The All-Controller, the All-Watcher, the All-Witness, the Trustworthy over everything; everything is subject to His authority, everything in existence is humbled and subjugated under His majesty and omnipotence, He who undertakes the judgment and administration of the universe, the All-Encompassing Watcher and Controller over every movement and stillness in existence.

العزيز: The Almighty - the One who possesses absolute might, power, and invincibility; the One who subdues all, grants honor to whom He wills, and humiliates whom He wills; nothing is impossible for Him.

الجبار: The Compeller - the One who possesses absolute power and might, who subdues all creation, and whose will is irresistible; yet He mends the broken, enriches the poor, eases hardships, and comforts the distressed.

المتكبر: The Supreme, the Majestic - the One who possesses absolute pride and greatness, far above the attributes of creation, the One who dominates the arrogant sinners, unique in divinity and lordship, to whose pride all in the heavens and earth submit, and who said in the authentic divine hadith: 'Pride is My cloak and greatness My garment, whoever contends with Me for either, I will cast him into Hellfire.'

الخالق: The Creator - the One who brought everything into existence from nothing, originated all creation, and formed everything with perfect wisdom and power.

البارئ: The Originator - The One who creates from nothing and brings into existence what He has decreed, giving life to every living being, and making creation distinct and perfect without flaw.

المصور: The Fashioner - the One who creates and forms all things in their unique shapes and images, giving each creation its distinct form and characteristics

الأول: The First - the Eternal without beginning, the One before whom nothing exists, and nothing precedes Him.

الآخر: The Last - the One after Whom there is nothing, the Everlasting without end when everything perishes, to Whom all things return and all affairs of His creation end; He is the ultimate goal sought in fear and hope.

الظاهر: The Manifest - the One who is above everything, nothing is above Him; the Most High over all things; the Victorious who cannot be overcome; the One whose signs of power appear in all of existence, so everything in it is evidence of His manifestation and existence.

الباطن: The Hidden - the One who is concealed from His creation, aware of the innermost secrets, nothing is hidden from Him, and He is closer to everything than anything else.

المالك: The Sovereign Owner - the true Possessor who owns everything in existence and has the absolute right to dispose of it as He wills.

المليك: The King - the great and powerful King, the Owner of the mighty and vast dominion, who possesses everything, nothing escapes His power, and everything belongs to Him; He is the Sovereign King, glory be to Him, as indicated by His saying: 'In a seat of truth near the Sovereign King, the All-Powerful' (Quran 54:55).

الهادي: The Guide - the One who guides to the truth and faith, shows His servants the path of goodness and salvation, and grants them guidance out of His mercy.

السميع: The All-Hearing - He who hears all voices of creation, whose hearing encompasses everything, no sound confuses Him, no language differs before Him, He hears the secret and the whispered, and knows what is open and what is hidden.

البصير: The All-Seeing - the One who sees everything in existence, nothing is hidden from His sight, no matter how small or hidden, and He is the All-Aware of matters and their outcomes, the Knower of secrets.

الواسع: The All-Encompassing - the Generous One of vast riches, abundant in giving, whose bounty, grace, and provision encompass all His creation, and His mercy encompasses everything; He expands provision for His servants out of His generosity and grace; He is the One who encompasses everything with His knowledge.

المحيط: The All-Encompassing - the One whose knowledge, will, and power encompass all things; nothing is hidden from Him, nothing escapes His knowledge, power, or will.

علّام الغيوب: The All-Knower of the Unseen - the One who knows all hidden things, secrets, and what is concealed in hearts; He knows the treachery of the eyes and what the breasts conceal; nothing in the heavens or the earth is hidden from Him.

الشاكر: The Appreciative - the One who accepts little from His servants and rewards them abundantly, who gives thanks for good deeds and multiplies the reward.

البر: The Benign, The Source of Goodness - The One who is kind to His servants, gentle with them, and does good to them; whose goodness and kindness encompass all creation, withholding no provision; truthful in His promises to His believing servants; who specially favors His allies with His goodness, guiding them to call upon Him, answering them, and admitting them to His Paradise by His grace and mercy.

التواب: The Acceptor of Repentance - the One who repeatedly turns to His servants in mercy, accepts their repentance, forgives their sins, and guides them to repent again and again.

الرؤوف: The Most Kind, the Compassionate - the One who is extremely kind, merciful, and affectionate towards His servants, caring for them fully, treating them with gentleness and sympathy, not burdening them beyond their capacity and easing things for them in their weakness

الولي: The Protecting Friend - the One who loves those who obey Him, supports His servants, preserves them, aids them, manages their affairs, guides them to what benefits them in this world and the Hereafter, and undertakes their reward and recompense on the Day of Resurrection; the One who sustains them with support, success, guidance, brings benefit to them, and repels harm from them.

المولى: The Master, the Guardian, the One who manages the affairs of all creatures and disposes their matters; He is the King and the Protector, and there is no protection except through Him; He is the One from whom victory and help are sought.

الرب: The Lord, the Master, the Nurturer, the Owner of all, the One who sustains and governs all creation

الخلاق: The Supreme Creator - the One who creates all things from nothing, invents them with precise measure without any prior model, initiates creation then repeats it, creates whatever He wills whenever He wills however He wills, creation after creation, and is never incapable of any creation.

القدير: The All-Powerful - the One who has perfect and complete power over all things, nothing is impossible for Him, the One who decrees all matters with His knowledge and wisdom, possessing immense might and absolute capability, free from any weakness or incapacity.

النصير: The Helper - the One who supports and aids His believing servants, never abandoning them, granting them victory and strength, overcoming the arrogant, and being the refuge of the oppressed.

الغني: The Self-Sufficient - the One who is free of all needs, while all creation is in absolute need of Him

الحميد: The All-Praiseworthy - the One who deserves all praise and thanks, who is praised for His perfect attributes and actions, who is glorified for every beautiful and majestic quality, to whom all praise belongs, who loves those who praise Him and rewards them.

المجيد: The All-Glorious - the One described with majesty, sublimity, exaltation and greatness, the One exalted in His worth, glorified in His authority and dominion, the One deserving of glory, magnification, greatness and veneration. He said: 'Owner of the Throne, the All-Glorious, Doer of whatever He wills.'

الحق: The Truth - the One whose existence is absolute and undeniable, the True and the Just, from whom all truth and justice derive.

المبين: The Clear, The Manifest - the One who is evident and clear through His signs, who makes the truth plain and clear to His servants

القوي: The All-Strong - the One who possesses absolute power, complete ability, and firm resolve; nothing can overcome Him, nothing can resist Him, and all creation is weak and helpless before His strength, power, and will.

المتين: The Firm, the Strong - the One of perfect, unyielding strength, whose power never diminishes, who is never affected by fatigue or weariness.

المنتقم: The Avenger - The One who punishes the tyrants and the disobedient, breaks the backs of the arrogant and the oppressors, tortures the hardened criminals, and guarantees victory for His believing servants and retribution against the wrongdoers, even if after a while. The evidence for the name Al-Muntaqim is His saying: 'The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will be the Avenger.'

العفو: The Pardoner - the One who pardons His servants' sins and erases their misdeeds

الغفور: The Oft-Forgiving - the One who forgives abundantly, covers sins, and pardons the faults of His servants, concealing their shortcomings and erasing their transgressions with His mercy.

الحليم: The Forbearing - the One who does not hasten punishment, who pardons and is patient, and who does not withhold His bounty from His servants despite their sins, giving them respite to repent.

القريب: The Near - He who is near to His servants in His knowledge, hearing their secrets and whispers, nothing is hidden from Him; He knows the treachery of the eyes and what the hearts conceal; He is near to those who call upon Him, answering their prayers and fulfilling their needs, swift in response, all-knowing of His creation's needs, never rejecting a supplicant; nothing is like unto Him, glorified be He.

المجيب: The Responsive - the One who answers the supplicants, gives to those who ask, and removes harm from the distressed; He meets prayer with giving and requests with acceptance.

الحي: The Ever-Living - the One who is eternally alive with perfect life, without beginning or end, who never dies, never perishes, and is the giver of life to all living beings

القيوم: The Self-Subsisting, the Sustainer of all - the One who is self-sufficient and upon whom all creation depends for their existence and sustenance.

العلي: The Most High - the One who is exalted above all, the Sublime in His essence, attributes, and power, above whom there is none higher.

العظيم: The Magnificent - the One of majestic status, possessing inherent greatness, whom all creation fear, glorify, and prostrate to; the One with absolute sovereignty, pride, and power over everything.

الكبير: The Most Great - the One who is great in His essence, attributes, and authority, free from any resemblance to His creation, possessing absolute majesty and grandeur, and nothing is greater than Him.

المتعال: The Most High, the Supreme - the One who is exalted above everything by His power and dominance, the Highest in everything, incomparable in His majesty and authority, free from any resemblance to creation, and the Subduer of all by His perfect power.

اللطيف: The Subtle, The Kind - the One who is gentle and gracious to His creation, bestowing His favors upon them in hidden and subtle ways, and who knows the finest details of all things.

الخبير: The All-Aware - the One who knows the hidden realities of all things, the One whose knowledge encompasses the apparent and the hidden, the One who is perfectly aware of every detail.

الوهاب: The Bestower - the Generous Giver who grants gifts and blessings to His creation abundantly and freely, without expectation of return or reckoning; His gifts never cease and the treasures of His mercy never run out. Allah says: 'Or do they have the treasures of the mercy of your Lord, the Exalted in Might, the Bestower?' (Quran 38:9)

الرزاق: The All-Provider - the One who creates and grants all provisions, sustains all creatures, and provides for their needs both apparent and hidden.

الحسيب: The Reckoner - the One who is sufficient for His servants, the One who reckons and rewards all deeds with perfect justice, the All-Knowing of every detail, the Guardian and Witness over all things, and the Sufficer for those who trust in Him.

الرقيب: The All-Watchful - the One who observes and preserves all things, nothing escapes His knowledge, sight, or hearing; the One who knows the secret and the public, and is witness over everything.

الشهيد: The All-Witnessing - the One who is present and aware of everything, from Whom nothing is hidden; the All-Knowing of the deeds of servants and every event among His creation; the One attested to for His oneness; the One who testifies with truth; the One who witnesses all actions of creation.

المقيت: The All-Powerful Guardian, the Creator of Sustenance, the One who guarantees its delivery to all creatures, the Watchful Recompenser, the Nourisher who provides sustenance for every being.

الفتاح: The Opener, The Judge, The One who opens the doors of goodness, provision, and victory for His servants, who resolves what is closed and judges with truth.

العليم: The All-Knowing - the One whose knowledge encompasses everything, the past, present, and future, the apparent and hidden, the great and small, and nothing escapes His knowledge.

الحكيم: The All-Wise - the One whose actions are perfect, whose creation is precise, whose speech is praiseworthy, and whose planning is sound; the One who knows the outcomes of all matters and places everything in its proper place with perfect wisdom.

الجامع: The Gatherer - the One who has the power to gather His creation as He wills and when He wills; He gathers all creatures on the Day of Resurrection, and gathers the scattered parts of creation at the time of resurrection. He is the One who brings people together for the Day of Judgment, and gathers the hypocrites and disbelievers together in Hell. He possesses all virtues and perfect attributes, and to Him belong complete power and perfect will.

القادر: The All-Powerful - the One who is capable of everything, who can do whatever He wills without any weakness or fatigue, nothing escapes His power.

المقتدر: The All-Powerful - the One of perfect power and complete strength, whom none can overpower. He is capable of everything, nothing is impossible for Him, and nothing escapes His ability. He governs with wisdom and manages all things with His power, the Sovereign who cannot be overcome, the Controller, the Dominant, the Perfect over everything in the universe.

فاطر السموات والأرض: The Originator of the heavens and the earth - the One who created them, split them apart from their primordial unity, and initiated their existence without any prior model.

عالم الغيب والشهادة: The Knower of the Unseen and the Seen - He who knows all that is hidden from creation and all that is present, encompassing everything concealed or manifest, for His knowledge encompasses the unseen (hidden from humans) as well as the tangible and known world perceived by the senses.

بديع السموات والأرض: The Incomparable Originator of the heavens and the earth - the Unique Creator who brings into existence from nothing without any prior model, whose creativity and beauty of craftsmanship are manifest in the diversity of His creations.

نور السماوات والأرض: The Light of the heavens and the earth - the One who illuminates the heavens and the earth, guides the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth, fills the universe with wisdom and guidance, so they are guided by His light to the truth and saved by His guidance from misguidance, the One by whose light existence is illuminated, adorning the sky with the sun, moon, and stars, and adorning the earth with prophets, scholars, and believers.

الواحد: The One - the Unique who has no second, no equal, no partner, no likeness; He alone is singular in sovereignty, judgment, governance, and oneness.

الأحد: The One, the Unique - the One who is unique in His highness, oneness, and perfection of attributes and majesty, free from any partner or likeness

الصمد: The Eternal, the Self-Sufficient Master whom all creatures seek for their needs, the Perfect Lord who is free from all needs and defects, the One who remains forever and never perishes.

القاهر: The Subduer - the One who dominates His creation with His power and authority, the One who is alone in controlling and creating, under whose will and decree all are compelled, the One who is exalted over His creation with perfect power and subjugation.

القهار: The All-Subduer - the One who dominates all His creation, who subdues them through death and annihilation, the Invincible who cannot be resisted, the Possessor of absolute authority and complete control over all matters, the One with supreme sovereignty over everything in existence. Allah says: 'On the Day they will come out, nothing about them will be hidden from Allah. To whom belongs the kingdom this Day? To Allah, the One, the All-Subduer' (Quran 40:16).

العالم: The All-Knowing - the One whose knowledge encompasses everything, the hidden and the manifest, the past, present, and future; nothing escapes His knowledge.

الحكم: The Judge - The One who judges with truth and justice, His judgment alone prevails, He judges between His creation with His justice and wisdom, and distinguishes between truth and falsehood.

الإله: The One True God who is rightfully worshipped; there is no deity but Him, and all others are false. Allah says: 'And your God is one God; there is no deity except Him, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful' (Quran 2:163).

الحفي: The Most Kind and Gentle - the One who is extremely gracious and caring towards His servants, attends to their needs, honors them, and answers their prayers.

الودود: The Loving One - the One who loves His righteous servants and is beloved to them, showing affection through mercy and forgiveness.

الحافظ: The Preserver - the One who guards His servants, protects them, preserves His allies, takes care of them, and turns away evil from them by His grace. He is the One who preserves whomever He wills so that no evil reaches them, and He is the One who preserves the deeds of creation, counts their words, knows their intentions and what their hearts conceal, and watches over their movements and stillness.

الحفيظ: The Preserver - the One who preserves all creation with His knowledge, protects His servants from evil, and keeps everything under His care

الغالب: The Victorious, the Dominant, the One who prevails over all things by His power and will, whose decree none can repel, and who achieves His purpose regardless of people's desires.

الكافي: The Sufficient One - the One who suffices His believing servants, protecting them from harm and evil, and providing them with all their needs in this world and the Hereafter

المنّان: The Bestower of Abundant Favors - the Generous, the One who grants countless blessings and favors to His creation without any request, and upon whom no one has any favor.

المستعان: The One from whom help is sought - He alone is sought for aid and support, and He grants it out of His grace and favor.

الوارث: The Inheritor - the One who remains after the death of all creatures and the annihilation of creation, to Whom all possessions return when their owners perish, the Ever-Living, the Eternal, Who inherits the earth and all upon it.

الكفيل: The Guarantor, the Surety, the One who undertakes to provide for and protect His creation, and is a Witness over them.

الوكيل: The Disposer of Affairs, the Trustee, the One upon whom all creatures rely for their sustenance and affairs, the Guardian who manages all matters perfectly.

الغفار: The Oft-Forgiving - the One who repeatedly forgives sins and conceals faults, covering the ugly and revealing the beautiful, forgiving all sins great and small, time after time, for those who repent and turn away from them, and concealing their faults in this world and the Hereafter. Allah says: 'Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Exalted in Might, the Oft-Forgiving' (Surah Sad, 38:66).

الكريم: The Most Generous - the One who is abundantly good, bountiful, and gives without compensation or cause, who does not need means, who does not care whether the recipient is a believer or disbeliever, who pardons when able, fulfills promises, and increases from His bounty, who bestows blessings before merit and grants favors without expectation of return.

الشكور: The Most Appreciative - the One who rewards abundantly for little, appreciates small acts of obedience and gives great reward, praises His believing servants, and recompenses good with good.

الأعلى: The Most High - the One who is above everything, the Exalted and Noble, who alone possesses absolute supremacy, and nothing is above Him. He is above all, and nothing can surpass His authority and judgment. He is the Most High, free from any partner, likeness, or anything unbefitting. He is the Highest in power, knowledge, wisdom, and majesty. Allah says: 'Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High' (Quran 87:1).

الأكرم: The Most Generous - the One whose generosity surpasses all, the Most Noble who gives without measure and pardons with grace

مالك الملك: The Owner of all Sovereignty - the true Master and absolute Owner of all dominion, Who disposes of His kingdom as He wills, the One with absolute control over everything, the Sovereign Who owns everything manifest and hidden in the universe.

ذو الجلال والإكرام: The Lord of Majesty and Bounty - the One described with absolute greatness and magnificence, who bestows honor and generosity upon His creation, worthy of veneration and gratitude.
