So they were struck by the evil consequences of what they did (16:34)

﴿فَأَصَابَهُمْ سَيِّئَاتُ مَا عَمِلُوا وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ﴾
[ النحل: 34]

16:34 So they were struck by the evil consequences of what they did and were enveloped by what they used to ridicule.

So the retribution of the actions they used to do came down on them and they were surrounded by the punishment they used to mock at whenever they were reminded of it.

Then, the evil results of their deeds overtook them, and that at which they used to mock surrounded them.

Faasabahum sayyiatu ma AAamiloo wahaqa bihim ma kanoo bihi yastahzioona

But the evil results of their deeds overtook them, and that very (Wrath) at which they had scoffed hemmed them in.

Then, they were afflicted by their evil deeds, and they were surrounded by that which they used to mock.
