Quran 27:70 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn
And do not grieve for them and do not be distressed by their schemes — this is meant to comfort the Prophet s in other words do not be concerned with their plotting against you for We will grant you victory over them.
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
And do not be grieved at heart for their denial of the divine message nor for their hearts which dare rise defiant against Allah, nor should you be sorely distressed on account of their cunning which they take for a sinister and crooked wisdom
Quran 27:70 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
And those who disbelieve say: "When we have become dust – we and our fathers – shall we really be brought forth? ( 67 )"Indeed we were promised this – we and our forefathers before, verily, these are nothing but tales of ancients.
( 68 )Say to them: "Travel in the land and see how has been the end of the criminals.
( 69 )And grieve you not over them, nor be straitened ( in distress ) because of what they plot ( 70 )
Scepticism about the Resurrection and Its Refutation
Allah tells us about the idolators who deny the Resurrection, considering it extremely unlikely that bodies will be re-created after they have become bones and dust.
Then He says:
( Indeed we were promised this – we and our forefathers before, ) meaning, 'we and our forefathers have been hearing this for a long time, but in reality, we have never seen it happen.'
( verily, these are nothing but tales of ancients. ) the promises that bodies will be restored are
( nothing but tales of ancients. ) meaning that they were taken by the people who came before us from books which were handed down from one to the other, but they have no basis in reality.
Responding to their thoughts of disbelief and their belief that there would be no Resurrection, Allah said,
( Say ) 'O Muhammad, to these people,'
( Travel in the land and see how has been the end of the criminals. ) meaning, those who denied the Messengers and their message of the Resurrection and other matters.
See how the punishment and vengeance of Allah struck them and how Allah saved from among them the noble Messengers and the believers who followed them.
This will be an indication of the truth of the Message brought by the Messengers.
Then, to comfort the Prophet ﷺ, Allah says:
وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ
( And grieve you not over them, ) meaning, 'but do not feel sorry for them or kill yourself with regret for them,'
( nor be straitened because of what they plot. ) means, 'because they plot against you and reject what you have brought, for Allah will help and support you, and cause your religion to prevail over those who oppose you and stubbornly resist you in the east and in the west.'
Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi
(27:70) O Prophet, do not grieve for them nor feel distressed at their machinations. *87 -
And grieve not over them or be meaning
*87) That is, " You have done full justice to your mission of preaching.
Now if they do not listen to you, and wish to persist in their folly and deserve the Divine torment, you should not consume yourself by being distressed and grieved at their condition.
Then, why should you feel vexed at their mean machinations that they are devising in order to fight the truth and to frustrate your movement of return `? You have Allah's power at your back.
If they do not listed to you, they will only be harming themselves, not you. "
Tafsir Maarif-ul-Quran Mufti Muhammad Shafi

( And grieve thou not ) O Muhammad ( for them ) if they do not believe; it is also said that this means: do not grieve for their destruction, ( nor be in distress because of what they plot (against you )) and do not be grieved because of what they do and say against you.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
And grieve you not for them, nor be straitened (in distress) because of what they plot.
We try our best to translate, keeping in mind the Italian saying: "Traduttore, traditore", which means: "Translation is a betrayal of the original text".
