Quran 21:91 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn
And mention Mary the one who guarded her virginity the one who preserved it from being taken so We breathed into her of Our spirit namely Gabriel when he breathed into the opening of her garment and she conceived Jesus. And We made her and her son a sign for all the worlds that is for mankind jinn and angels because she bore him without having a male partner.
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
And Maryam (Mary) who guarded herself from being supposed and maintained the flower of faith and chastity, and so We sent to her Our Messenger -the Spirit Gabriel-, to breathe life into her and animate a soul in her womb, and We made her and her son Isa (Jesus) an emblem of Our Omnipotence and Authority to be pondered by all people
Quran 21:91 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
`Isa and Maryam the True Believer
Here Allah mentions the story of Maryam and her son `Isa, just after mentioning Zakariyya and his son Yahya, may peace be upon them all.
He mentions the story of Zakariyya first, followed by the story of Maryam because the one is connected to the other.
The former is the story of a child being born to an old man of advanced years, from an old woman who had been barren and had never given birth when she was younger.
Then Allah mentions the story of Maryam which is even more wondrous, for in this case a child was born from a female without ( the involvement of ) a male.
These stories also appear in Surah Al `Imran and in Surah Maryam.
Here Allah mentions the story of Zakariyya and follows it with the story of Maryam, where He says:
وَالَّتِى أَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَهَا
( And she who guarded her chastity, ) means, Maryam ( peace be upon her ).
This is like the Ayah in Surah At-Tahrim:
وَمَرْيَمَ ابْنَةَ عِمْرَانَ الَّتِى أَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَهَا فَنَفَخْنَا فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِنَا
( And Maryam, the daughter of `Imran who guarded her chastity.
And We breathed into it her garment through Our Ruh ) 66:12.
وَجَعَلْنَـهَا وَابْنَهَآ ءَايَةً لِّلْعَـلَمِينَ
( and We made her and her son a sign for the nations.
) means, evidence that Allah is able to do all things and that He creates whatever He wills; verily, His command, when He intends a thing, is only that He says to it, "Be" -- and it is! This is like the Ayah:
وَلِنَجْعَلَهُ ءَايَةً لِّلْنَّاسِ
( And (We wish ) to appoint him as a sign to mankind) 19:21
Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi
(21:91) And (We blessed) that woman who had kept her chastity. *88 We breathed into her of Our Spirit *89 and made her and her son a Sign to the whole world *90
And [mention] the one who guarded her meaning
*88) That is, " Mary ( Allah's peace be upon her ) ".
*89) It should be noted that the incident of the birth of Prophet Jesus was not different from that of Prophet Adam, because the wording of the Arabic Text in the two cases is almost identical: ( See XXXVIII: 71-72 ).
Besides this in verse 91 , almost similar words have beets used in regard to the birth of Jesus Christ.
( See also IV: l71 and LXVI:12 ).
Allah Himself has stated that the birth of Prophet Jesus was just like the birth of Prophet Adam: " In the sight of Allah, the case of the birth of Jesus is like that of Adam, whom He created out of dust and said, 'Be', and he was. " ( III: 59 ).In the light of these verses, we may conclude that AIIah uses words like: " We breathed into him or her of Our spirit " for miraculous births.
( For fuller details please see IV: E.N's 212-213 ).
*90) That is, " The mother and the son were not partners of God nor had any share whatever in Godhead, but were a Sign from among the Signs of God. " ( See XIX: E.N.
21 also ).

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
( And ) and mention ( she who was chaste, therefore We breathed into her (something ) of Our Spirit) therefore, by Our command, Gabriel breathed into her ( and made her and her son a token ) a sign and admonition ( for (all ) peoples) for the children of Israel: a son without a father; and a birth without physical contact.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
And (remember) she who guarded her chastity [Virgin Maryam (Mary)], We breathed into (the sleeves of) her (shirt or garment) [through Our Ruh - Jibrael (Gabriel)], and We made her and her son ['Iesa (Jesus)] a sign for Al-'Alamin (the mankind and jinns).
We try our best to translate, keeping in mind the Italian saying: "Traduttore, traditore", which means: "Translation is a betrayal of the original text".

Ayats from Quran in English
- And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers.
- And when it is said to them, "Come, the Messenger of Allah will ask forgiveness
- He will be in a pleasant life.
- And if Allah should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except
- Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire,
- And they swear by Allah their strongest oaths that if a sign came to them,
- And those who disbelieved are allies of one another. If you do not do so,
- And when their messengers came to them with clear proofs, they [merely] rejoiced in what
- Do they have feet by which they walk? Or do they have hands by which
- That We may show you [some] of Our greater signs.
