And We have already destroyed what surrounds you of [those] cities, and (46:27)

﴿وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَا مَا حَوْلَكُم مِّنَ الْقُرَىٰ وَصَرَّفْنَا الْآيَاتِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ﴾
[ الأحقاف: 27]

46:27 And We have already destroyed what surrounds you of [those] cities, and We have diversified the signs [or verses] that perhaps they might return [from disbelief].

And I destroyed the cities around you, O people of Makkah; I destroyed Ad, Thamud, the people of Lot and the people of Madyan, and I gave them different proof and evidence, in the hope they will return from their disbelief.

And indeed We have destroyed towns (populations) round about you, and We have (repeatedly) shown (them) the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in various ways that they might return (to the truth and believe in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism).

phonetic Transliteration

Walaqad ahlakna ma hawlakum mina alqura wasarrafna alayati laAAallahum yarjiAAoona

Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation

We destroyed aforetime populations round about you; and We have shown the Signs in various ways, that they may turn (to Us).

Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri

And indeed We have destroyed towns round about you, and We have shown (them) the signs in various ways so that they might return.
