surah Assaaffat aya 146 , English translation of the meaning Ayah.
﴿وَأَنبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةً مِّن يَقْطِينٍ﴾
[ الصافات: 146]
37:146 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine.
Tafsir Ibn Katheer in EnglishI then made a gourd tree grow for him on that barren earth, which would give him shade.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him.
phonetic Transliteration
Waanbatna AAalayhi shajaratan min yaqteenin
Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation
And We caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind.

We caused a tree to grow over him for protection, a tree which grew decumbently and straggingly to a considerable length so as to rest upon the ground (possibly some kind of pumpkin)

(37:146) and caused a gourd tree *83 to grow over him,
And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. meaning
*83) The Arabic word yaqtin applies to a tree which does not stand on a stem but grows and spreads like a creeper, e.g. a pumpkin, cucumber, water-melon, etc. In any case, a creeper was produced miraculously, so that its leaves should provide shade to the Prophet Jonah and its fruit should serve him both as food and as shade.
