Key Words:
- ʿAllama (عَلَّمَ): He taught — indicating a complete, perfected act of teaching that encompasses both knowledge and application.
- Al-Qurʾān (الْقُرْآن): The Holy Book revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ — the ultimate divine guidance for humanity.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this profound verse, Allah, the Most Merciful, declares that He is the One who taught the Qurʾān. This teaching is not merely a one-time event but a continuous, gracious act of divine mercy. Allah taught the Qurʾān to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through the Angel Gabriel, and through him, to all of humanity. This teaching includes the facilitation of its recitation, the ease of memorizing its verses, and the opening of hearts and minds to understand its profound meanings and wisdom.
The emphasis here is on the attribute of *Ar-Raḥmān* (The Most Merciful) — it is out of His infinite mercy that He gifted us this divine book. He did not leave us in darkness; rather, He illuminated our path with guidance that addresses every aspect of human life. The teaching of the Qurʾān is the greatest blessing, for through it, we come to know our Creator, understand our purpose, and find the way to eternal success.
This verse invites every believer to reflect: if the Most Merciful has honored us by teaching us His words, how can we neglect them? How can we not recite, ponder, and live by them? The Qurʾān is a living miracle — easy to remember, deep in meaning, and transformative in its impact. Whoever turns to it with sincerity will find that Allah has already paved the way for their understanding, just as He promised.
Let this verse ignite in your heart a deep love for the Qurʾān. Approach it daily with humility and eagerness, for every letter you recite is a mercy, every verse you understand is a light, and every action you take upon it is a step closer to the Most Merciful. Indeed, the One who taught the Qurʾān is the One who will guide you through it — so hold fast to this rope of Allah, and never let go.
