Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Khalaqa (خَلَقَ): Created, brought into existence from nothing, originated.
  • Al-Insan (الْإِنسَانَ): The human being — referring specifically to Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) as the origin of all humanity, and by extension, all of humankind.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this profound verse, Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) declares that He — and He alone — created the human being. The word "Al-Insan" here refers primarily to Prophet Adam (peace be upon him), the first human being whom Allah fashioned with His own Hands and breathed into him of His spirit. From Adam, Allah created his spouse, and from them both, He spread countless men and women across the earth.

This creation was not a random or careless act — rather, Allah created the human being in the most perfect form, with the best stature, upright posture, and a sound, balanced nature. He gave humans the faculties of hearing, sight, and intellect, distinguishing them from all other creatures. The human being was created with dignity and honor, as Allah says elsewhere: "Indeed, We have honored the children of Adam" (Al-Isra 17:70).

Furthermore, this verse comes immediately after mentioning the Most Merciful (Ar-Rahman) — and what a beautiful connection! The very first act of mercy mentioned after Allah's name is the creation of the human being. This tells us that our very existence is a manifestation of Allah's mercy. You were not created by chance or for no purpose — you were created by the Most Merciful, out of His infinite compassion, to be His vicegerent on earth and to know Him, worship Him, and receive His abundant blessings.

A Call to Reflection and Gratitude:

Dear reader, pause for a moment and reflect: The One who created you knows you perfectly. He knows your strengths, your weaknesses, your struggles, and your aspirations. He created you with a purpose and did not leave you neglected. The fact that you are reading these words right now is itself a sign of His mercy — He kept you alive, gave you sight and intellect, and guided you to seek knowledge about Him.

So let this verse fill your heart with gratitude and love for your Creator. If He created you out of mercy, then His mercy encompasses you at every moment. Turn to Him, thank Him for the gift of existence, and strive to live according to His guidance. For the One who created you with such perfection will not abandon you — He has sent you His Book and His Messenger to show you the path to eternal success. Embrace this mercy, and let it transform your life into a journey of worship, gratitude, and love for the Most Merciful.
