Labial Ikhfa
Letter of Labial Ikhfa: a single letter — Baa (b).
Whenever the letter Baa follows a silent Meem, hiding the Meem (Ikhfa) is permitted while observing the ghunnah.
In Labial Ikhfa, the lips come together lightly (without pressing firmly) rather than fully separating, since both Meem and Baa are articulated by the closure of the lips.
Note: when Baa follows a silent Meem, both Ikhfa and Idhar are valid and transmitted, but Ikhfa is the preferred and more commonly adopted view.
Examples of Labial Ikhfa:
﴾سَلْهُم أَيُّهُم بِِذَلِكَ زَعِيمً﴿ (Al-Qalam: 40)
﴾فَإِذَا هُم بِالسَّاهِرَةِ﴿ (An-Nazi'at: 14)
﴾وَمَا صَاحِبُكُم بِمَجْنُونٍ﴿ (At-Takwir: 22)
﴾فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ﴿ (Al-Inshiqaq: 24)
