Y juran por Allah con los juramentos más solemnes que si les (35:42)

﴿وَأَقْسَمُوا بِاللَّهِ جَهْدَ أَيْمَانِهِمْ لَئِن جَاءَهُمْ نَذِيرٌ لَّيَكُونُنَّ أَهْدَىٰ مِنْ إِحْدَى الْأُمَمِ ۖ فَلَمَّا جَاءَهُمْ نَذِيرٌ مَّا زَادَهُمْ إِلَّا نُفُورًا﴾
[ فاطر: 42]

Y juran por Allah con los juramentos más solemnes que si les llega algún advertidor seguirán la guía más que cualquier otra comunidad, sin embargo cuando les ha llegado un advertidor no han hecho sino crecer en rechazo.

[Los incrédulos] juraron por Dios que si se les presentaba un [Profeta] amonestador, serían más encaminados que ninguna otra comunidad; pero cuando se les presentó un amonestador, no hicieron sino aumentar su rechazo.

42. Y (los idólatras de La Meca) juraban solemnemente por Al-lah que si se presentara ante ellos un amonestador, serían la nación mejor guiada; mas ahora que les ha llegado un amonestador (Muhammad) no han hecho sino alejarse más (de la verdad)

English - Sahih International

And they swore by Allah their strongest oaths that if a warner came to them, they would be more guided than [any] one of the [previous] nations. But when a warner came to them, it did not increase them except in aversion.
