📖 English Meaning
This day [all] good foods have been made lawful, and the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them. And [lawful in marriage are] chaste women from among the believers and chaste women from among those who were given the Scripture before you, when you have given them their due compensation, desiring chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse or taking [secret] lovers. And whoever denies the faith - his work has become worthless, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.

Tafsir (Explanation):

In this blessed verse, Allah completes His favor upon the believers by granting them a comprehensive permission that reflects the beauty and ease of Islam. On this day—the day this revelation came down—Allah made lawful for you all that is pure and wholesome. This includes delicious foods, beneficial provisions, and everything that is good for your body and soul, while prohibiting only what is harmful or impure.

Furthermore, Allah permits you to eat the food of the People of the Book—the Jews and the Christians—provided they slaughter animals according to their own religious rites. This is a great concession that fosters social harmony and neighborly relations, for their food is lawful for you, and your food is likewise lawful for them. This mutual exchange builds bridges of kindness and understanding between communities, reflecting the universal mercy of Islam.

In matters of marriage, Allah also grants you the permission to marry chaste, free women from among the believers, as well as chaste, free women from the People of the Book who came before you—provided you give them their dowries willingly and with a sincere heart. This permission, however, comes with a crucial condition: you must be muhsineen—honorable and chaste in your conduct—not committing fornication openly, nor taking secret lovers in hidden relationships. Marriage is a sacred bond of dignity and commitment, not a means to satisfy desires unlawfully. It is a union built on mutual respect, faithfulness, and the intention to build a righteous family.

This permission also carries a gentle reminder: when marrying a woman from the People of the Book, a Muslim must be mindful of his own faith and not be swayed from his religion. The believer's identity and commitment to Islam remain paramount, and the marriage should strengthen, not weaken, one's devotion to Allah.

Finally, the verse closes with a profound warning: whoever rejects faith and denies the commandments of Allah after knowing the truth—his deeds will become worthless, like ashes scattered by the wind, and he will be among the losers in the Hereafter. This is a call to hold firmly to the rope of Allah and to appreciate the immense blessings He has bestowed upon you.

Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, look at the beauty of this verse! It shows how Islam is a religion of ease, mercy, and practical wisdom. It does not isolate you from society but guides you to live in harmony with others while preserving your faith and values. The permission to eat with the People of the Book and to marry their chaste women is not merely a legal ruling—it is an invitation to build peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and loving relationships within the framework of divine guidance.

Yet, with every blessing comes responsibility. Allah reminds you to remain chaste, honorable, and steadfast in your faith. He warns that abandoning faith nullifies all good deeds—so cherish your iman (faith) as your most precious treasure. Let this verse inspire you to appreciate the completeness of Islam, to live with gratitude, and to strive for righteousness in every aspect of your life. Indeed, the path of faith leads to success in this world and eternal bliss in the Hereafter.

📜 Verse 3-7 — Al-Maidah

Prohibited to you are dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah, and [those animals] killed by strangling or by a violent blow or by a head-long fall or by the goring of horns, and those from which a wild animal has eaten, except what you [are able to] slaughter [before its death], and those which are sacrificed on stone altars, and [prohibited is] that you seek decision through divining arrows. That is grave disobedience. This day those who disbelieve have despaired of [defeating] your religion; so fear them not, but fear Me. This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion. But whoever is forced by severe hunger with no inclination to sin - then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
They ask you, [O Muhammad], what has been made lawful for them. Say, "Lawful for you are [all] good foods and [game caught by] what you have trained of hunting animals which you train as Allah has taught you. So eat of what they catch for you, and mention the name of Allah upon it, and fear Allah." Indeed, Allah is swift in account.
O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves. But if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it. Allah does not intend to make difficulty for you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favor upon you that you may be grateful.
And remember the favor of Allah upon you and His covenant with which He bound you when you said, "We hear and we obey"; and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Knowing of that within the breasts.
