Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • An-Nujūm (النُّجُوم): The stars scattered across the sky.
  • Inkadarat (انْكَدَرَتْ): They fell, scattered, and their light was extinguished or wiped out.

Tafsir (Explanation):

When the sun is wrapped up and its light is taken away, and when the stars fall from their places in the sky, tumbling down to the earth, their brightness erased and their glow completely gone—this marks the beginning of the great upheaval of the Day of Judgment. The heavens, once adorned with these brilliant lights that guided travelers and inspired wonder, will be stripped of their beauty. The stars that mankind has gazed upon for centuries, relying on them for navigation and marveling at their constancy, will suddenly lose their stability and crash down, signaling that the world as we know it is coming to an end. This vivid imagery serves as a powerful reminder that everything in this universe—no matter how majestic or permanent it may seem—is under Allah’s absolute command and will one day be dismantled at His will.

A Da’wah Reflection:

Imagine the night sky, filled with countless stars that have shone for billions of years—yet on that Day, they will fall like drops of rain, their light vanishing in an instant. If such mighty celestial bodies cannot endure, then how can we, as human beings, afford to be heedless of our Creator’s call? This scene is not meant to frighten us into despair, but to awaken our hearts. It invites us to look at the universe and recognize the power of Allah, who created all of this and will one day fold it away. It urges us to prepare for that meeting with Him—through sincere faith, good deeds, and turning back to Him in repentance. The fleeting nature of this world, symbolized by the falling stars, is a gentle yet firm nudge: do not attach your heart to what will pass, but anchor it in what will remain—the pleasure of Allah and the eternal bliss of Jannah. Let this reminder inspire you to live each day with purpose, knowing that the Hereafter is near, and that every moment is an opportunity to draw closer to your Lord.
