Surah At-Takwir — Verse 1

Tafsir (Explanation):

When the sun is folded up and its light is extinguished—wrapped away like a garment rolled up at the end of the day—this marks the beginning of the cosmic upheaval that heralds the Day of Resurrection. The sun, which has been a constant source of light and life for humanity, will be stripped of its brilliance and reduced to a dark, coiled mass. This vivid imagery serves as a powerful reminder that the world we know, with all its apparent permanence, is temporary and subject to the command of Allah. Nothing in this universe is eternal except Him. The folding of the sun is not merely a physical event but a profound sign that the system of this worldly life is coming to an end, and the true reality of the Hereafter is about to unfold.

This verse invites us to reflect: if the mighty sun—an awe-inspiring creation that sustains all life—can be so easily extinguished by Allah’s will, then how trivial are our own worldly concerns and attachments? It calls upon the believer to prepare for that inevitable moment when all that we see will be transformed, and we will stand before our Lord to account for our deeds. Let this be a wake-up call to turn back to Allah, to seek His mercy, and to live a life of purpose and righteousness, so that when the sun is folded and the Hour arrives, we may be among those who are successful. The Qur’an does not present these scenes to frighten us aimlessly, but to guide us toward the path of peace and eternal bliss—a reminder that the fleeting trials of this world are nothing compared to the everlasting joy that awaits the believers in the presence of their Lord.
