Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • "Ittaqū" (وَاتَّقُوا) — Fear, be conscious of, and guard yourselves against.
  • "Turjaʿūn" (تُرْجَعُونَ) — You will be returned, brought back.
  • "Tuwaffā" (تُوَفَّىٰ) — Will be fully paid, completely recompensed.
  • "Lā yuẓlamūn" (لَا يُظْلَمُونَ) — They will not be wronged or treated unjustly in any way.

Explanation of the Verse:

O people, fear and be mindful of a Day when you will all be returned to Allah — the Day of Resurrection. On that Day, every single soul will stand before its Lord, and each person will be given their complete and exact recompense for everything they did in this worldly life. Every good deed will be rewarded in full, and every evil deed will be accounted for with perfect justice. No one will be wronged in the slightest — not by having their good deeds diminished, nor by having their sins increased beyond what they deserve. This verse comes as a powerful conclusion to the rulings on usury (ribā) and financial transactions, reminding us that all our dealings are witnessed and will be brought to account. It serves as a profound call to purify our earnings, to avoid what Allah has forbidden, and to complete our faith by establishing prayer, giving zakāh, and performing righteous deeds — because everything we do is recorded and will be presented before Allah on that inevitable Day.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, this verse is a gentle yet firm reminder from your Lord — a wake-up call wrapped in mercy. Imagine standing before Allah, the Most Just, with your entire life's record laid open. Every penny you earned, every word you spoke, every action you took — all perfectly preserved and accounted for. But here is the beautiful news: Allah's justice is absolute, and His mercy is even greater. He promises that no one will be wronged — not even by the weight of a mustard seed. So let this verse inspire you to live a life of consciousness and integrity. Strive to earn halāl (lawful) sustenance, avoid what Allah has prohibited, and fill your days with deeds that will weigh heavily on your scale of good on that Day. The One who created you and knows your every struggle is the same One who will reward you with perfect fairness. Let this awareness transform your heart, soften your dealings with others, and draw you closer to your Creator. For the one who fears that Day and prepares for it is truly the wisest of people, and the One who awaits you on that Day is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy.

📜 Verse 279-283 — Al-Baqarah

And if you do not, then be informed of a war [against you] from Allah and His Messenger. But if you repent, you may have your principal - [thus] you do no wrong, nor are you wronged.
And if someone is in hardship, then [let there be] postponement until [a time of] ease. But if you give [from your right as] charity, then it is better for you, if you only knew.
And fear a Day when you will be returned to Allah. Then every soul will be compensated for what it earned, and they will not be treated unjustly.
O you who have believed, when you contract a debt for a specified term, write it down. And let a scribe write [it] between you in justice. Let no scribe refuse to write as Allah has taught him. So let him write and let the one who has the obligation dictate. And let him fear Allah, his Lord, and not leave anything out of it. But if the one who has the obligation is of limited understanding or weak or unable to dictate himself, then let his guardian dictate in justice. And bring to witness two witnesses from among your men. And if there are not two men [available], then a man and two women from those whom you accept as witnesses - so that if one of the women errs, then the other can remind her. And let not the witnesses refuse when they are called upon. And do not be [too] weary to write it, whether it is small or large, for its [specified] term. That is more just in the sight of Allah and stronger as evidence and more likely to prevent doubt between you, except when it is an immediate transaction which you conduct among yourselves. For [then] there is no blame upon you if you do not write it. And take witnesses when you conclude a contract. Let no scribe be harmed or any witness. For if you do so, indeed, it is [grave] disobedience in you. And fear Allah. And Allah teaches you. And Allah is Knowing of all things.
And if you are on a journey and cannot find a scribe, then a security deposit [should be] taken. And if one of you entrusts another, then let him who is entrusted discharge his trust [faithfully] and let him fear Allah, his Lord. And do not conceal testimony, for whoever conceals it - his heart is indeed sinful, and Allah is Knowing of what you do.
