Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Tilka (تِلْكَ): This refers to "these" or "that," pointing to what follows—the verses of the Qur'an.
  • Āyāt (آيَاتُ): Signs, miracles, or verses—clear evidences and proofs.
  • Al-Kitāb (الْكِتَابِ): The Book, meaning the Qur'an.
  • Al-Mubīn (الْمُبِينِ): The clear, manifest, and evident one—that which makes things plain and distinct.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse opens Surah Al-Qasas with a powerful declaration: "These are the verses of the clear Book." Here, Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) is drawing our attention to the Qur'an itself, emphasizing that what follows is not ordinary speech, but the very signs and revelations of a Book that is utterly clear and self-evident in its truth.

The word "clear" (Mubīn) carries a profound meaning: the Qur'an is a book that explains itself, clarifies the truth from falsehood, and illuminates the path for humanity in all matters of this life and the Hereafter. It is not a book of ambiguity or confusion—rather, it is a divine guide that lays out the halal (lawful) and haram (unlawful), the commands and prohibitions, and the wisdom behind creation. Every verse is a sign pointing to the greatness of its Creator, and every chapter unfolds guidance for those who seek it with a sincere heart.

This opening line also serves as a gentle invitation: the Qur'an is accessible, clear, and free from distortion. It was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a mercy to mankind, making plain what was previously hidden and correcting what had been altered. For the believer, this clarity is a source of comfort—there is no need to wander in darkness when the light of this Book shines so brightly.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, pause and reflect on the magnificence of this statement. The Creator of the heavens and the earth is telling you that His Book is clear—so why not turn to it? Why not let it guide your decisions, purify your heart, and illuminate your path? The Qur'an is not a book to be admired from afar; it is a living conversation between you and your Lord. Every verse is a treasure, and this clarity is a gift from Allah to all of humanity.

If you are seeking truth, you will find it here. If you are searching for peace, it resides in these words. If you desire success in this life and salvation in the next, the keys are within these pages. Let this verse be a reminder that Allah has not left you without guidance—He has sent you a Book that is clear, complete, and perfect. Embrace it, recite it, understand it, and act upon it, and you will find that it leads you to the very best of outcomes, both in this world and in the eternal life to come.
