📖 English Meaning
There is not upon the blind [any] constraint nor upon the lame constraint nor upon the ill constraint nor upon yourselves when you eat from your [own] houses or the houses of your fathers or the houses of your mothers or the houses of your brothers or the houses of your sisters or the houses of your father's brothers or the houses of your father's sisters or the houses of your mother's brothers or the houses of your mother's sisters or [from houses] whose keys you possess or [from the house] of your friend. There is no blame upon you whether you eat together or separately. But when you enter houses, give greetings of peace upon each other - a greeting from Allah, blessed and good. Thus does Allah make clear to you the verses [of ordinance] that you may understand.

The Tafsir (Explanation):

This noble verse brings a beautiful message of ease, mercy, and social harmony from Allah, the Most Merciful, to His believing servants. It begins by removing any sense of guilt or restriction from those who have valid excuses. There is no sin or blame upon the blind person, nor upon the lame, nor upon the sick, if they are unable to perform certain obligations that require physical ability—such as fighting in jihad or other strenuous duties. Their incapacity is known to Allah, and He has excused them out of His infinite mercy. This is a profound comfort: Islam does not burden a soul beyond its capacity.

Then, the verse turns to a beautiful social ruling that brings hearts together. There is no sin upon you, O believers, in eating from your own homes—which includes the homes of your children, for a child's home is like one's own—nor from the homes of your fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, paternal uncles, paternal aunts, maternal uncles, or maternal aunts. This permission reflects the natural bonds of love and trust within families. Likewise, you may eat from homes whose keys are entrusted to you, such as a property you are guarding or managing on behalf of its owner, provided this is done with their permission and without taking more than needed. And you may also eat from the home of a sincere friend, for a true friend is one whose heart is open to you with generosity and affection. This is a beautiful teaching that removes awkwardness and formality between loved ones, while still respecting the rights of others.

The verse further clarifies that there is no blame upon you whether you eat together in a group or separately. This addresses a cultural hesitation some people had, thinking that eating alone or together carried some restriction. Islam makes it easy: the matter is flexible, and the choice is yours, as long as hearts are pure and rights are preserved.

Then comes a beautiful instruction that elevates even the simplest act of entering a home into an act of worship and blessing: when you enter homes, greet one another with a greeting from Allah—blessed and pure. Say "As-salamu 'alaykum" (peace be upon you) to those present, and if no one is there, say "As-salamu 'alayna wa 'ala 'ibadillahis-salihin" (peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah). This greeting is not merely words; it is a supplication for peace and safety, a seed of love and unity among believers, and a reminder that every home is a place of blessing. It is described as *mubarakah* (blessed) because it brings divine goodness and reward, and *tayyibah* (pure) because it is wholesome and pleasing to the hearts of those who hear it.

In this way, Allah makes His signs clear to you, so that you may understand with your minds and hearts, and live your lives in obedience, love, and harmony. This verse is a beautiful example of how Islam cares for every detail of human life—turning even our meals and our greetings into opportunities for reward, connection, and remembrance of Allah. Let us embrace these teachings with joy and gratitude, for they are a mercy from our Lord, who knows what is best for us in every situation.

📜 Verse 59-63 — An-Nur

And when the children among you reach puberty, let them ask permission [at all times] as those before them have done. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses; and Allah is Knowing and Wise.
And women of post-menstrual age who have no desire for marriage - there is no blame upon them for putting aside their outer garments [but] not displaying adornment. But to modestly refrain [from that] is better for them. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.
The believers are only those who believe in Allah and His Messenger and, when they are [meeting] with him for a matter of common interest, do not depart until they have asked his permission. Indeed, those who ask your permission, [O Muhammad] - those are the ones who believe in Allah and His Messenger. So when they ask your permission for something of their affairs, then give permission to whom you will among them and ask forgiveness for them of Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
Do not make [your] calling of the Messenger among yourselves as the call of one of you to another. Already Allah knows those of you who slip away, concealed by others. So let those beware who dissent from the Prophet's order, lest fitnah strike them or a painful punishment.
