- Shurakā': Partners or associates (referring to the false deities they worshipped alongside Allah).
- Sammūhum: Name them; identify and describe them.

Tafsir (Explanation):
Is the One who stands watch over every soul—recording every deed, whether good or evil, and fully aware of all that each person earns and does—worthy of worship, or are these helpless idols and powerless creations that cannot even benefit or harm themselves? The answer is self-evident: only the All-Knowing, All-Seeing Sustainer deserves your devotion.
Yet, despite this undeniable truth, the polytheists—out of sheer ignorance and stubbornness—assigned partners to Allah from among His own creation, worshipping them alongside Him. Allah instructs His Prophet ﷺ to challenge them: "Name them!" Bring forth their names and describe their qualities. Show us what makes them worthy of worship. Do they create? Do they provide? Do they hear and answer prayers? You will find nothing but emptiness.
Are you informing Allah of something He does not know exists on earth? Does He need you to tell Him about partners He is unaware of? Or are you merely uttering hollow words—calling them "partners" without any reality behind the label? These are nothing but baseless claims and empty phrases.
The truth is that Satan has beautified their deceptive schemes in their eyes, making their falsehood appear attractive and their arguments seem convincing. He has led them astray from the straight path of guidance, blocking their way to the truth. And whoever Allah allows to go astray—due to their own persistent rejection of truth—has no guide to bring them back, for guidance comes only from Allah, and He grants it to whom He wills.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse carries a profound lesson for every seeker of truth: Allah is not distant or unaware. He is the Ever-Watchful Guardian over every soul, knowing every secret, every intention, and every deed—nothing escapes His knowledge. How comforting it is for the believer to know that their Lord sees their struggles, hears their silent prayers, and records their smallest acts of goodness! And how sobering it is for those who turn away to realize that their deeds are also fully known, and no false partner or intercessor can shield them from His justice.
The call to "name your partners" is an eternal challenge to every person who places their trust in anything other than Allah—be it wealth, status, idols, or false ideologies. Can any of these truly provide for you, protect you, or know what is in your heart? Only Allah—the Living, the Self-Sustaining—deserves your worship, your love, and your complete submission.
Let this verse inspire you to purify your heart from all forms of hidden shirk—whether it be showing off in worship, relying on created beings as if they control your destiny, or following desires that lead you away from Allah's path. For whoever Allah guides, none can mislead, and whoever He allows to stray, no guide can rescue. So turn to Him sincerely, for He is closer to you than your own jugular vein, and He loves nothing more than His servant returning to Him in humility and repentance.
