Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • اسْتُهْزِئَ (ustuhzi'a): Was mocked or ridiculed.
  • فَأَمْلَيْتُ (fa-amlaytu): I granted respite, delayed, or gave them more time.
  • ثُمَّ أَخَذْتُهُمْ (thumma akhathtuhum): Then I seized them with punishment.
  • عِقَابِ (iqaab): My punishment or retribution.

Explanation of the Verse:

O Messenger, do not be grieved by the mockery and ridicule you face from your people. You are not alone in this trial, for many prophets who came before you were also mocked and rejected by their nations. They laughed at the messages of truth, dismissed the warnings, and belittled the call to monotheism. Yet, I did not punish them immediately. I gave them a long period of respite, allowing them to continue in their ways, thinking that they were safe and that no punishment would ever come. This delay was not a sign of neglect, but rather a part of My divine wisdom, giving them every opportunity to reflect, repent, and return to the truth.

But when they persisted in their arrogance and disbelief, I seized them with a punishment that was severe and undeniable. They were taken in a way that left them utterly helpless, and they realized—too late—that the warning was true. So reflect, O listener: how terrible was My punishment for those who rejected the messengers? It was a punishment that served as a lesson for all who came after them, a testament to the fact that Allah's promise is true and that His justice is inevitable.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

This verse is a powerful reminder that Allah's patience is vast, but His justice is certain. The mockers of truth may seem to prosper for a while, but their end is destruction. For the believer, this is a source of great comfort and strength. It teaches us to remain steadfast in the face of ridicule, knowing that Allah sees all and that He is the ultimate protector of His messengers and His message. It also serves as a warning to those who mock the truth: do not be deceived by the delay of punishment, for when it comes, it will be inescapable. Let this verse inspire you to hold firm to your faith, to trust in Allah's timing, and to never despair of His help. The victory of truth is guaranteed, and the end of the arrogant is always ruin.

📜 Verse 30-34 — Ar-Ra'd

Thus have We sent you to a community before which [other] communities have passed on so you might recite to them that which We revealed to you, while they disbelieve in the Most Merciful. Say, "He is my Lord; there is no deity except Him. Upon Him I rely, and to Him is my return."
And if there was any qur'an by which the mountains would be removed or the earth would be broken apart or the dead would be made to speak, [it would be this Qur'an], but to Allah belongs the affair entirely. Then have those who believed not accepted that had Allah willed, He would have guided the people, all of them? And those who disbelieve do not cease to be struck, for what they have done, by calamity - or it will descend near their home - until there comes the promise of Allah. Indeed, Allah does not fail in [His] promise.
And already were [other] messengers ridiculed before you, and I extended the time of those who disbelieved; then I seized them, and how [terrible] was My penalty.
Then is He who is a maintainer of every soul, [knowing] what it has earned, [like any other]? But to Allah they have attributed partners. Say, "Name them. Or do you inform Him of that which He knows not upon the earth or of what is apparent of speech?" Rather, their [own] plan has been made attractive to those who disbelieve, and they have been averted from the way. And whomever Allah leaves astray - there will be for him no guide.
For them will be punishment in the life of [this] world, and the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe. And they will not have from Allah any protector.
