Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah Almighty declares that those who persist in disbelief and actively hinder others from His path—the path of Islam and true guidance—and who block access to the Sacred Mosque in Makkah, have committed a grave transgression. This refers to the disbelievers of Quraysh who, in the year of al-Hudaybiyyah, prevented the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions from performing the pilgrimage and entering the Sacred House.
The Sacred Mosque is not a private property for any tribe or nation; rather, Allah has made it a sanctuary and a place of worship for all people equally. Whether one is a permanent resident of Makkah or a visitor arriving from afar, all have the same right to enter, pray, and perform the rituals of Hajj and ʿUmrah there. No one has the authority to exclude others or claim exclusive rights over this blessed place.
Moreover, Allah issues a stern warning: whoever intends to commit a deviation from the truth within the Sacred Mosque—whether through shirk (associating partners with Allah), oppression, or any deliberate sin—will taste a painful punishment. The sanctity of this place demands the utmost respect, and violating it with injustice is a severe offense that invites divine retribution.
This verse carries a profound lesson for all believers: the House of Allah is a symbol of unity, equality, and peace. It is a place where all Muslims, regardless of race, nationality, or social status, stand shoulder to shoulder in worship. The warning against injustice within it reminds us that Allah watches over His sacred places and that righteousness must prevail everywhere, especially in the holiest of sites.
Dear reader, reflect on the mercy of Allah in making this House a gathering point for humanity—a beacon of guidance and tranquility. Let us honor it by purifying our hearts, avoiding sin, and treating all who come to it with kindness and respect. And let us be grateful for the blessing of Islam, which calls us to justice, unity, and devotion to the One True God. May Allah guide us to uphold the sanctity of His House and protect us from all forms of injustice and deviation.
