- Sayhah (صَيْحَةٍ): A loud cry, shout, or any alarming sound.

- Yu'fakun (يُؤْفَكُونَ): They are turned away or diverted from the truth.
Tafsir (Explanation):
When you look at these hypocrites, O Prophet, their physical appearance captivates you — they are well-built, handsome, and presentable, with a glow of health and comfort that draws the eye. And if they speak, you find yourself listening attentively, for their words are eloquent, fluent, and persuasive, making you think they are sincere. Yet beneath this attractive exterior lies an utter emptiness of faith and understanding. They are like wooden beams propped against a wall — lifeless, hollow, and utterly useless, for they neither comprehend the truth nor benefit from it. Their hearts are void of belief, and their minds are closed to guidance.
Because they know the reality of their own hypocrisy and are consumed by cowardice, they live in constant fear. Every loud sound or cry makes them think that danger is coming for them, that they are being exposed or attacked. They are terrified of being discovered, and their hearts are filled with dread and suspicion.
These hypocrites are your true enemies — not the open enemies who declare their hostility, but those who hide their malice behind sweet words and friendly faces. They betray your secrets to the disbelievers and plot against you and the believers. So beware of them, O Prophet, and take every precaution against their schemes. May Allah destroy them and drive them far from His mercy! How is it that they are turned away from the truth when its proofs are so clear and its evidences so manifest? What blindness has overtaken them that they choose falsehood over guidance, and hypocrisy over sincere faith?
A Call to Reflection and Action:
This verse is a profound lesson for every believer. It teaches us that outward appearances are never a measure of true worth. A person may be beautiful in form, eloquent in speech, and impressive in presence, yet hollow and barren within. Islam calls us to look beyond the surface and judge people by the content of their hearts, their sincerity, and their deeds.
It also warns us of the danger of hypocrisy — the most treacherous of enemies, for it hides behind a mask of friendship. The believer must be wise and discerning, not naive or gullible. Trust is a precious thing, and it should only be placed in those who have proven their faith and loyalty.
At the same time, this verse invites us to purify our own hearts. Let us not be among those whose outward appearance is pleasing but whose inner reality is empty. Let us fill our hearts with sincere faith, our minds with beneficial knowledge, and our lives with righteous actions. For Allah looks not at your forms or your wealth, but at your hearts and your deeds.
And let us take comfort in the knowledge that Allah is fully aware of the hypocrites and their schemes. He has promised to protect His believing servants and to expose the plots of those who seek to harm them. So put your trust in Allah, and He will suffice you against every enemy, whether open or hidden.
