Tafsir (Explanation):
O believers, this noble verse is a direct call from your Lord to facilitate marriage and remove every obstacle that stands in its way. Allah commands you to marry off those among you who are single — whether they are men who have no wives or women who have no husbands, whether they have never been married before or have lost a spouse through death or divorce. The command extends also to the righteous among your male and female servants — meaning you should help them find spouses as well, for they are part of your responsibility and care.
The verse then addresses a common fear that prevents many from taking this step: the fear of poverty. Allah says: *"If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty."* This is a divine promise and a powerful reassurance — do not let the lack of wealth stop you from marrying or from marrying off those under your care. Marriage is a means of provision, not a barrier to it. When a person marries with the sincere intention of protecting their chastity and obeying Allah, Allah opens doors of sustenance for them that they never imagined. How many poor people have been enriched through the blessings of marriage? How many households have found barakah (blessing) in their provision after taking this step of faith?
Finally, Allah closes the verse with two of His beautiful attributes: *"And Allah is Wasi' (All-Encompassing in bounty), 'Aleem (All-Knowing)."* He is the One whose treasures never run dry — He provides for all His creatures from His vast generosity. And He is fully aware of the circumstances of every single servant: He knows who is truly in need, who is sincere in their intention, and how to grant provision in the way that suits each person best.
A Call to Action for the Believers:
Dear Muslim, this verse carries a profound message for our communities today. How many young men and women are delaying marriage because of financial fears? How many parents are hesitant to marry off their children because they feel they are not "ready" or "wealthy enough"? This verse removes that excuse entirely. Allah has promised to enrich those who marry for His sake. So step forward with trust in Allah (tawakkul), facilitate marriages, support one another, and be a reason for another believer's happiness and chastity. Remember that the Prophet ﷺ said: *"Whoever marries has completed half of their faith, so let them fear Allah regarding the remaining half."* By helping others marry, you share in that reward and become a pillar of strength for your community. Trust in Allah's promise — His bounty is vast, and His knowledge encompasses all.
