- Shara'a (شَرَعَ): Legislated, ordained, and made clear the path of divine law.
- Wassa (وَصَّى): Enjoined, commanded, and strongly recommended as a binding covenant.
- Yajtabi (يَجْتَبِي): Chooses, selects, and purifies for Himself.

Tafsir (Explanation):
O humanity, Allah has laid down for you a single, unified religion—the same essential message of Islam—that He commanded Prophet Nuh (Noah) to convey and practice, and that He revealed to you, O Muhammad, through the Qur'an. He also enjoined the same core principles upon Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses), and 'Isa (Jesus). The essence of this divine command across all ages is: establish the religion firmly—by worshipping Allah alone, submitting to His will, and upholding His commands—and do not divide or split over its fundamental principles. The unity of faith is not a new invention; it is the timeless call of every prophet sent by Allah.
This call to pure monotheism (Tawhid) and sincere devotion to Allah alone was heavy and unbearable for the polytheists. They found it strange and difficult that people should abandon their idols and submit wholly to one God. Yet, this is the very heart of the message that all prophets carried—a message of mercy, justice, and liberation from false worship.
Allah then consoles His Prophet and all believers: Allah chooses for His religion whom He wills—He selects those with pure hearts and sound intentions—and He guides to it whoever turns back to Him in repentance and sincere seeking. So do not grieve over those who reject the truth; your duty is only to convey, while guidance rests solely with Allah. He knows who is worthy of His mercy and who will respond to His call.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse is a profound reminder that Islam is not a new religion but the continuation and completion of the one true faith brought by all prophets—from Nuh to Muhammad (peace be upon them all). The unity of this message is a sign of its divine origin. When you embrace Islam, you are not joining a new path; you are returning to the original, unaltered path that every prophet walked. The call to worship Allah alone is the key to true peace and success. It may seem heavy to those attached to falsehood, but for the sincere seeker, it is light and sweet. Allah has chosen you to hear this message—let it be the beginning of your journey back to Him. Turn to Him, and He will guide your steps, illuminate your heart, and grant you the highest success in this life and the next.
