Surah Al-Waqi'ah — Verse 1

When the Event (the Resurrection) occurs — that is, when the inevitable reality of the Hereafter comes to pass, the great event that must happen and cannot be avoided.

This opening verse establishes the certainty of the Day of Judgment. The word "Waqi'ah" itself signifies something that is bound to fall and occur without any doubt. It is a day that will bring down the mighty and raise up the humble; it will lower the enemies of Allah into the Fire and elevate His righteous servants into Paradise.
