📖 English Meaning
It is He who expelled the ones who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture from their homes at the first gathering. You did not think they would leave, and they thought that their fortresses would protect them from Allah; but [the decree of] Allah came upon them from where they had not expected, and He cast terror into their hearts [so] they destroyed their houses by their [own] hands and the hands of the believers. So take warning, O people of vision.

The Tafsir (Interpretation):

This verse takes us back to a pivotal moment in early Islamic history, a powerful testament to the absolute sovereignty of Allah and the ultimate futility of relying on worldly strength. It refers to Allah's expulsion of the Jewish tribe of Banu Nadir, who had broken their covenant with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and conspired with his enemies.

These were a people of great wealth, formidable fortifications, and a strong sense of security. They lived in lush, well-protected settlements on the outskirts of Madinah. When the order for their exile came, you, O believers, could not even imagine that they would leave their homes so easily. Their power, their numbers, and their seemingly impregnable fortresses made their departure seem impossible. They themselves were equally deluded, firmly believing that their mighty strongholds would protect them from Allah's punishment, as if stone and mortar could ever stand against the will of the Creator.

But then comes the profound lesson: Allah's decree reached them from a direction they had never anticipated. Their own allies, the hypocrites, abandoned them, and the terror of Allah was cast into their hearts. In their despair and spite, they began destroying their own homes with their own hands, so that the Muslims would not benefit from them, while the believers also demolished the fortifications from the outside. Their source of pride and security became the very instrument of their humiliation.

O people of understanding, take a lesson from this! This is not merely a historical account; it is a timeless principle. It teaches us that true power and security lie not in wealth, armies, or technology, but in our connection with Allah. No fortress, no plan, and no alliance can protect a person or a nation from the consequences of breaking faith with Allah and His Messenger. When Allah wills something, no power on earth can prevent it. The hearts of the mighty can be filled with fear in an instant, and their greatest strengths can become their downfall. Let this story inspire you to place your absolute trust in Allah, to honor your covenants, and to always be mindful that His power supersedes all else. It is a call to open our eyes, to reflect on the fate of those who came before us, and to align our lives with the will of the One who is truly in control of all affairs.

📜 Verse 1-4 — Al-Hashr

Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth exalts Allah, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

And if not that Allah had decreed for them evacuation, He would have punished them in [this] world, and for them in the Hereafter is the punishment of the Fire.
That is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allah - then indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.
