Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Sabbaha (سَبَّحَ): To glorify, to declare God free from all imperfections, deficiencies, and anything that does not befit His majesty. It implies praising Him with absolute reverence and acknowledging His perfection.
  • Ma fi al-samawati wa ma fi al-ard (مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ): Everything that exists in the heavens and the earth — every creature, animate or inanimate, conscious or unconscious, from the vast galaxies to the smallest particles.
  • Al-Aziz (الْعَزِيزُ): The Almighty, the All-Powerful, the One who is invincible and cannot be overcome or defeated by anyone or anything.
  • Al-Hakim (الْحَكِيمُ): The All-Wise, the One who places everything in its proper place, whose creation, decree, and legislation are all perfect and purposeful.

The Interpretation:

This opening verse of Surah Al-Hashr declares a universal truth that resonates through all of existence: everything in the heavens and the earth glorifies Allah Almighty. The entire cosmos — the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the oceans, the trees, the animals, and every human soul — is engaged in the continuous act of praising and exalting Allah, declaring Him free from every imperfection, weakness, and flaw.

This glorification is not merely a verbal utterance but a state of being. Every creature, by its very existence, its design, its function, and its submission to the divine order, is testifying to the perfection of its Creator. The heavens with their celestial bodies, the earth with its abundant life, all are living proofs of Allah's majesty and are, in their own way, performing the act of tasbih (glorification).

Then Allah describes Himself with two of His most magnificent attributes: Al-Aziz — the Almighty who is supreme in power, whose will cannot be challenged, and who is never overcome by any force in the universe. And Al-Hakim — the All-Wise, whose every action, command, and decree is filled with profound wisdom. He does not act arbitrarily; rather, He places everything precisely where it belongs, in perfect harmony and balance.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, pause for a moment and reflect on this magnificent reality. When you look at the sky above you, when you walk on the earth beneath your feet, when you observe the intricate systems of nature — know that all of this is glorifying its Creator. The birds singing at dawn, the waves crashing on the shore, the wind rustling through the leaves — all are engaged in the remembrance of Allah.

Now, the question that arises is: will you, as a conscious and rational being, join this universal chorus of glorification? Will you use your intellect and your free will to acknowledge your Creator, to submit to Him, and to live a life that reflects His wisdom and power? The entire universe is calling you to this truth. The Almighty, the All-Wise, has not created you in vain; He has given you the ability to know Him, to worship Him, and to draw closer to Him. Answer this call today, and you will find peace, purpose, and a connection to the very fabric of existence. Indeed, when you glorify Allah, you align your heart with the entire creation, and you become part of that beautiful, eternal symphony of praise that fills the heavens and the earth.

📜 Verse 1-3 — Al-Hashr

1سَبَّحَ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ
Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth exalts Allah, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
It is He who expelled the ones who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture from their homes at the first gathering. You did not think they would leave, and they thought that their fortresses would protect them from Allah; but [the decree of] Allah came upon them from where they had not expected, and He cast terror into their hearts [so] they destroyed their houses by their [own] hands and the hands of the believers. So take warning, O people of vision.
And if not that Allah had decreed for them evacuation, He would have punished them in [this] world, and for them in the Hereafter is the punishment of the Fire.
