Tafsir (Explanation):
This noble verse directs a portion of the war spoils (fay') that Allah granted to His Messenger to a specific and deserving group: the poor emigrants (Muhajirin) from Makkah. These were believers who were forced by the disbelieving Quraysh to abandon their homes, their families, and their wealth—everything they had built and loved—simply because they embraced the worship of Allah alone.
Their hearts were not attached to worldly gains. Rather, they left with a higher purpose: seeking Allah's abundant provision in this life and, more importantly, His eternal pleasure in the Hereafter. They did not emigrate for personal benefit or status; they emigrated to protect their faith and to answer the call of Allah and His Messenger.
Furthermore, they supported Allah's cause and His Messenger with their lives, their efforts, and whatever they could offer. They fought in the path of Allah, endured hardship, and stood firm beside the Prophet (peace be upon him) through trials and triumphs.
Allah then declares that these are the truly truthful ones—those whose faith was not merely a claim on their tongues but a reality proven by their sacrifices. Their actions testified to the sincerity of their words, and their emigration was the ultimate proof of their devotion.
Da'wah Reflection:
This verse teaches us a profound lesson about the meaning of true faith. Faith is not just a statement we repeat; it is a commitment that may require us to sacrifice what we hold dear. The Muhajirin gave up their homes and wealth for the sake of Allah, and in return, Allah gave them something far greater: His pleasure, His support, and an eternal honor in this world and the next.
When we look at our own lives, we are reminded that every act of sacrifice for Allah—whether it is giving up our time, our comfort, or our wealth for His sake—is never wasted. Allah sees it all and rewards it abundantly. The doors of His bounty are open to those who sincerely seek Him, and His pleasure is the greatest treasure one can ever attain.
Let us ask ourselves: Are we truthful in our faith? Are we willing to prioritize Allah's pleasure over our own desires? The example of the Muhajirin inspires us to love Allah above all else and to trust that whatever we give for His sake, He will replace with something better—both in this life and in the eternal life to come.
