Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Irka‘ū (ارْكَعُوا): Bow down in prayer — the act of bowing in humility before Allah during the ritual prayer (ṣalāh).
  • Usjudū (وَاسْجُدُوا): Prostrate — the act of placing the forehead on the ground in total submission to Allah, the highest act of humility in worship.
  • U‘budū (وَاعْبُدُوا): Worship — to devote oneself entirely to Allah alone, with sincere obedience, love, and submission to His commands.
  • Al-Khayr (الْخَيْر): Goodness — every righteous deed, including acts of charity, kindness, maintaining family ties, and noble character.
  • Tufliḥūn (تُفْلِحُونَ): Succeed — to attain true prosperity, salvation from Hell, and entry into Paradise.

Explanation of the Verse:

O you who have truly believed in Allah and His Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him), and who strive to live by His guidance — bow down and prostrate in your prayers, humbling yourselves before your Lord. Let your worship be devoted to Him alone, with no partner or associate. And go beyond the obligatory acts: do good in all its forms — kindness to parents, generosity to the needy, mending broken relationships, and adorning yourselves with noble character. All of this is so that you may attain true success — the success of this life and the Hereafter.

This verse calls you, O believers, to a life of complete devotion. The bowing and prostrating are not mere physical movements; they are outward expressions of an inner reality — that your hearts are surrendered to Allah, your minds are focused on His greatness, and your limbs are obedient to His will. When you bow and prostrate, you are declaring that Allah is the Greatest, and that before Him, every pride and arrogance melts away.

Then, the verse commands you to worship your Lord — a comprehensive worship that includes prayer, supplication, remembrance, and living your entire life in accordance with His pleasure. And alongside worship, you are commanded to do good — for faith is not complete without action, and love for Allah must be reflected in love for His creation.

Why all of this? So that you may flourish — not just in worldly terms, but in the deepest sense: peace in your heart, blessings in your life, and ultimately, the eternal bliss of Paradise. This is the success that never fades, the victory that never ends.

Dear believer, this verse is a beautiful invitation from your Lord — an invitation to draw near to Him through humility, to purify your soul through worship, and to illuminate your path through good deeds. When you bow and prostrate, remember that you are following in the footsteps of the angels who bow and prostrate around the Throne of Allah. When you do good, remember that every act of kindness is a seed you plant for your own harvest in the Hereafter.

So rise to this call with love and eagerness. Let your prayer be your joy, your worship be your strength, and your good deeds be your legacy. For indeed, Allah has promised success to those who answer His call — and His promise is true.

📜 Verse 75-78 — Al-Hajj

Allah chooses from the angels messengers and from the people. Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Seeing.
He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them. And to Allah will be returned [all] matters.
O you who have believed, bow and prostrate and worship your Lord and do good - that you may succeed.
And strive for Allah with the striving due to Him. He has chosen you and has not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty. [It is] the religion of your father, Abraham. Allah named you "Muslims" before [in former scriptures] and in this [revelation] that the Messenger may be a witness over you and you may be witnesses over the people. So establish prayer and give zakah and hold fast to Allah. He is your protector; and excellent is the protector, and excellent is the helper.
