Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • At-Taghut (الطاغوت): Everything worshipped besides Allah, including idols, false deities, and any object of worship that leads to transgression. The word is derived from *tughyan* (transgression) with the added *ta* for emphasis, indicating extreme falsehood.
  • Anabu (أنابوا): They turned back in repentance, returning sincerely to Allah with devotion and submission.
  • Al-Bushra (البشرى): Glad tidings — the good news of divine pleasure, Paradise, and success in this life and the Hereafter.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This noble verse brings a heartwarming promise to those who distance themselves from all forms of false worship — whether idols, statues, or any being or object venerated besides Allah — and who turn sincerely to their Lord in repentance and pure devotion. For such believers, the glad tidings are twofold: in this worldly life, they receive Allah’s guidance, divine support, and a good reputation among people; and in the Hereafter, they are granted Allah’s eternal pleasure and the everlasting bliss of Paradise. The verse then commands the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to deliver this joyful news to Allah’s servants — those who listen to all words and follow the best of them, which is the Word of Allah and the guidance of His Messenger. These are the people whom Allah has blessed with sound intellect and righteous character, guiding them to the straight path and the most excellent of deeds.

Da‘wah Reflection:

Dear reader, imagine the beauty of this promise: Allah Himself declares that those who abandon falsehood and turn to Him will receive glad tidings — not only in the Hereafter but even in this very life. What greater honor could a servant seek than to be described as one of Allah’s devoted servants who chooses the best of speech and action? This verse invites you to purify your heart from every form of false worship — whether it be the worship of wealth, status, desires, or any created being — and to return to your Creator with a sincere, repentant heart. The door of repentance is always open, and the glad tidings are always ready for those who knock. Take this opportunity today: turn to Allah, listen to His guidance with an open heart, and follow the best of it. You will find peace in your soul, light in your path, and eternal joy awaiting you in the gardens of Paradise.

📜 Verse 15-19 — Az-Zumar

So worship what you will besides Him." Say, "Indeed, the losers are the ones who will lose themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection. Unquestionably, that is the manifest loss."
They will have canopies of fire above them and below them, canopies. By that Allah threatens His servants. O My servants, then fear Me.
But those who have avoided Taghut, lest they worship it, and turned back to Allah - for them are good tidings. So give good tidings to My servants
Who listen to speech and follow the best of it. Those are the ones Allah has guided, and those are people of understanding.
Then, is one who has deserved the decree of punishment [to be guided]? Then, can you save one who is in the Fire?
