Surah Az-Zumar — Verse 18

Tafsir (Explanation):

This noble verse describes a remarkable category of people – those whom Allah has blessed with the highest form of wisdom. They are described as those who listen attentively to all that is said, carefully weighing every statement, every piece of advice, and every call – and then, with discernment and sincerity, they choose to follow the best of it.

These are not people who blindly follow every voice or chase every trend. Rather, they are seekers of truth who use the intellect Allah gave them as a filter. They listen to the beautiful words of the Qur'an, the guidance of the Prophet ﷺ, and the wisdom of righteous scholars – and they embrace what is most pure, most just, and most beneficial for their worldly life and their Hereafter.

The verse then delivers a glorious verdict about them: "Those are the ones whom Allah has guided." This is the ultimate honor – that the Creator of the heavens and the earth Himself testifies that He has placed His guiding light in their hearts. Their journey of seeking the best did not go unnoticed; Allah rewarded their sincere effort by leading them to the straight path.

And finally: "And those are the people of sound intellect." True intelligence, according to the Qur'an, is not measured by worldly cleverness or academic degrees alone. The real mark of a wise person is their ability to recognize the truth when they hear it, and to submit to it wholeheartedly. The truly intelligent are those who prefer the eternal over the temporary, the divine over the human, and the pure over the corrupt.
