Key Words and Meanings:
- Muṣībah (مصيبة): Any affliction, hardship, or calamity that befalls a person—whether in health, wealth, family, or otherwise.
- Bi-idhni Allāh (بإذن الله): By Allah’s permission, will, and divine decree.
- Yahdi qalbahu (يهد قلبه): Allah guides his heart—granting it tranquility, submission, and insight.
Explanation of the Verse:
This noble verse delivers a profound message of faith and certainty. It declares that no affliction whatsoever strikes a person—whether in their body, wealth, children, or any aspect of their life—except by Allah’s permission and decree. Nothing happens in this universe outside of His will and wisdom. This is not a call to passivity, but rather a call to deep awareness that every trial has meaning and purpose within Allah’s perfect plan.
Then comes the beautiful promise: whoever truly believes in Allah—believing that nothing befalls them except by His decree, and that He is All-Wise in what He ordains—Allah will guide their heart. This guidance manifests as serenity in the face of hardship, acceptance of His decree, and the ability to say what pleases Allah when calamity strikes: "Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we will return." Such a person finds their heart illuminated with patience, their tongue occupied with remembrance, and their actions aligned with what pleases their Lord. The heart is the seat of guidance; when it is sound, the limbs follow in goodness.
Allah concludes with His perfect knowledge: He is All-Knowing of everything—of His servants’ circumstances, their hearts, their hidden struggles, and what is best for them in every situation.
A Call to Faith and Reflection:
Dear believer, this verse is a source of immense comfort. When trials come—and they surely will in this worldly life—know that they are not random or meaningless. They are from your Lord, who knows you better than you know yourself. He sends what refines your soul, raises your rank, and draws you closer to Him. So when hardship strikes, let your heart find rest in His decree. Trust Him, submit to Him, and He will guide your heart to a peace that surpasses all understanding. This is the way of the believers—a life of contentment, resilience, and unwavering trust in the Most Merciful. Embrace it, and you will find that even in the darkest moments, His light shines upon your heart.
