Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Meanings:
- Shurakā' (شُرَكَاءُ): Partners or associates; here, it refers to the false deities and idols that the polytheists claimed were partners with Allah, or any beings they believed would support their claims.
- Faly'atū (فَلْيَأْتُوا): "Let them bring" – a challenging command to produce and present something as proof.
- Sādiqīn (صَادِقِينَ): Truthful ones; those who are honest in their claims and assertions.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse is a powerful challenge directed at the disbelievers of Makkah who rejected the message of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and denied the reality of the Hereafter, the Resurrection, and the final judgment. They claimed that if what the Prophet said were true, they would not be held accountable, or they imagined that they had protectors and intercessors who would save them from punishment.
Allah (Glorious and Exalted be He) confronts them with a decisive question: "Do they have partners [with Allah]?" – meaning, do they have any deities, idols, or beings they worship besides Allah who can guarantee them what they claim? Do these so-called partners have the power to secure for them a better status on the Day of Judgment, or to save them from the consequences of their disbelief and wrongdoing?
Then comes the ultimate challenge: "Then let them bring their partners, if they are truthful." If they truly believe that their idols, their false gods, or any other beings can intercede for them or support their false claims, then let them produce these partners and show their power! Let them call upon them and see if they can respond, help, or prove the disbelievers' claims to be true.
This is an impossible challenge, because these so-called partners are nothing but lifeless idols, stones, or imaginary beings that have no power whatsoever. They cannot benefit nor harm anyone. By issuing this challenge, Allah exposes the emptiness of their beliefs and the futility of their reliance on false deities.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse teaches us a profound lesson about the purity of Tawheed (the Oneness of Allah) and the absolute power of Allah alone. It invites us to reflect: who truly deserves our worship, our trust, and our hope? Is it the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the One who gives life and death, the One who will judge all of us with perfect justice? Or is it weak, powerless creations that cannot even protect themselves?
For every sincere seeker of truth, this verse is a call to break free from all false dependencies and to place complete trust in Allah alone. It reassures the believer that no matter how many false claims or empty promises the disbelievers make, the truth of Allah will always prevail. It also comforts the believer who may feel overwhelmed by the arrogance of falsehood – reminding us that falsehood is inherently weak and will always be defeated by the power of truth.
So, dear reader, let this verse strengthen your faith and your certainty. Know that Allah is your only Protector and Helper. Hold firmly to His rope, and never fear the false claims of those who rely on anything other than Him. For Allah's promise is true, and His support for the believers is guaranteed.
