Key Words and Their Meanings:
- An-Nāshiṭāt (الناشطات): The angels who gently and easily draw out the souls of the believers, like one who unties a knot with ease and care.
- Nashṭan (نشطًا): A gentle, smooth, and effortless pulling or untying—indicating kindness and leniency in action.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this verse, Allah Almighty swears by the angels who gently and compassionately extract the souls of the believers at the time of death. Just as a person carefully unties a knot to avoid harming what is tied, these angels lovingly release the soul from the body with ease and tranquility, so that the believer departs from this world in peace, comfort, and dignity. This is in contrast to the angels described in the previous verse, who forcefully and harshly tear out the souls of the disbelievers.
This divine oath serves as a powerful reminder of Allah’s absolute control over life and death, and His infinite mercy toward His righteous servants. The very act of swearing by these angels highlights the importance of faith and good deeds, for the manner of one’s departure from this world is a reflection of one’s relationship with Allah. For the believer, death is not a terrifying end, but a gentle transition to eternal bliss in the presence of their Lord.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, let this verse fill your heart with hope and reassurance. Allah, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, has prepared a gentle and kind exit for those who believe in Him and strive to obey Him. Therefore, hasten to strengthen your faith, perform righteous deeds, and seek Allah’s pleasure in all that you do. Let not the fear of death overwhelm you, for the believer’s soul is taken with tenderness and grace. Strive to be among those whom the angels greet with peace and ease, and let this beautiful promise motivate you to live a life of devotion, sincerity, and love for your Creator. Indeed, Allah’s mercy encompasses all things, and He is ever ready to forgive and welcome His repentant servants.
