Surah Al-Layl — Verse 1

• وَاللَّيْلِ (By the night): Allah swears an oath by the night, one of His magnificent creations.
• إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ (when it covers): When the night spreads its darkness and envelops the earth and everything upon it, concealing all beneath its shadow.

Explanation of the Verse:

Allah, the Exalted, opens this chapter with a solemn oath by the night—that time when darkness spreads over the earth, covering mountains, plains, seas, and all that exists beneath its veil. This is not a mere poetic image; it is a divine call to reflect upon the alternation of night and day, a sign of Allah’s absolute power and wisdom.
