Word Meanings:

  • Bayyinah (بَيِّنَةٍ): A clear, decisive proof or evidence that leaves no room for doubt.
  • Rahmah (رَحْمَةً): Mercy; here, it refers to the gift of prophethood and the divine message.
  • Fa'ummiyat (فَعُمِّيَتْ): It was concealed or obscured; meaning the truth was hidden from them due to their own ignorance and arrogance.
  • Nulzimukum (أَنُلْزِمُكُمُوهَا): Shall we force it upon you; i.e., compel you to accept it against your will.
  • Karihoon (كَارِهُونَ): Detesting, unwilling, or averse to something.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this profound verse, Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) addresses his people with wisdom and patience, saying: "O my people, tell me—if I am upon a clear proof from my Lord, a decisive evidence that confirms the truth of what I call you to, and He has granted me mercy from His own presence—that mercy being prophethood and the divine message—yet this truth has been obscured from you because of your ignorance and pride, then shall we force it upon you while you detest it?"

This is a rhetorical question that carries a deep meaning: it is not the role of a prophet to compel people to believe by force. Faith is a matter of the heart, and true belief cannot be imposed. Prophet Nuh is making it clear that he does not possess the power to force guidance into their hearts—that power belongs to Allah alone. He is simply a warner and a bearer of good news, delivering the message with clarity and sincerity. If they reject it, their affair is with Allah, who will judge between them with perfect justice.

The verse teaches us a timeless lesson in da'wah (calling to Allah): the prophet's duty is to convey the message with clear evidence and gentle wisdom, not to coerce or overpower. The response to the message is a matter of free will, and the ultimate guidance is in Allah's hands. This reflects the beauty of Islam—it respects human intellect and choice, inviting people to the truth through reason, evidence, and compassion, not through compulsion.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse is a shining example of the noble character of the prophets. Despite the rejection and mockery of his people, Nuh (peace be upon him) responds with calmness, logic, and mercy. He does not insult them or lose hope; instead, he appeals to their reason and reminds them that he has nothing to gain but their welfare. This is the essence of Islamic calling—to be patient, clear, and compassionate, leaving the results to Allah. For every Muslim, this is a beautiful model: speak the truth with kindness, back it with evidence, and trust Allah with the outcome. Indeed, the path to Allah is paved with wisdom and beautiful exhortation, not with force or harshness.

📜 Verse 26-30 — Hud

That you not worship except Allah. Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a painful day."
So the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, "We do not see you but as a man like ourselves, and we do not see you followed except by those who are the lowest of us [and] at first suggestion. And we do not see in you over us any merit; rather, we think you are liars."
He said, "O my people have you considered: if I should be upon clear evidence from my Lord while He has given me mercy from Himself but it has been made unapparent to you, should we force it upon you while you are averse to it?
And O my people, I ask not of you for it any wealth. My reward is not but from Allah. And I am not one to drive away those who have believed. Indeed, they will meet their Lord, but I see that you are a people behaving ignorantly.
And O my people, who would protect me from Allah if I drove them away? Then will you not be reminded?
