Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Qul (قُلْ): Say, addressed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a direct command.
  • Huwa (هُوَ): He, a pronoun referring to the Divine Essence.
  • Allah (اللَّهُ): The proper name of God, encompassing all His perfect attributes of divinity, lordship, and majesty.
  • Ahad (أَحَدٌ): The One, uniquely singular, indivisible, and exclusive in His essence, attributes, and actions—having no equal, no partner, and no comparable.

Explanation of the Verse:

This noble verse commands the Prophet (peace be upon him) to declare the absolute oneness of Allah to all of humanity: "Say: He is Allah, the One." It affirms that Allah alone possesses the perfection of divinity, lordship, and all beautiful names and lofty attributes. He is unique in His essence—there is no deity worthy of worship besides Him, no partner in His sovereignty, and no rival in His dominion. He is the sole Creator, Sustainer, and Manager of all affairs, and His attributes are unlike any of His creation. This verse establishes the foundation of Islamic monotheism (Tawhid), which is the very core of faith: that Allah is one in His essence, one in His attributes, and one in His right to be worshipped exclusively.

This short, profound statement dismantles every form of polytheism and false belief. It declares that Allah is not composed of parts, has no offspring, no parents, and no equal—He is perfect in His absolute unity. The verse also serves as a direct answer to those who questioned the nature of God, whether from the polytheists of Makkah or the People of the Book, affirming that His oneness is beyond any human conception of multiplicity or division.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder the greatness of this single verse—it encapsulates the essence of your relationship with your Creator. When you declare "Allahu Ahad," you affirm that your heart belongs to no one but Him, your hope rests in no one but Him, and your worship is directed to no one but Him. This is the key to true peace and liberation: when you know that your Lord is One, without partner or equal, your heart finds rest in His oneness, and your life gains purpose in His obedience. Embrace this truth sincerely, for it is the very light that illuminates the path to eternal success. Let this declaration be not merely on your tongue, but a living reality in your actions, your choices, and your devotion. Indeed, the One who is Ahad deserves your complete love, your total trust, and your unwavering submission—for He is the only One who truly deserves it.
