The Interpretation:
This verse describes the true believers whom Allah has promised victory and support. They are those who, when Allah grants them power and establishes them firmly in the land—whether through conquest, leadership, or authority—do not become arrogant or corrupt. Instead, their strength becomes a means of goodness and reform.
Their first priority upon gaining power is to establish the prayer—not merely to perform it, but to uphold it in the truest sense: praying on time, in congregation where required, with humility and devotion, and ensuring that the prayer transforms their hearts and societies. They understand that prayer is the pillar of faith and the connection between the servant and his Lord.
They also give the Zakah, purifying their wealth and their souls by fulfilling the rights of the poor, the needy, and all those entitled to financial support. They see their wealth as a trust from Allah, and they distribute it with justice and compassion, thereby strengthening the bonds of society and eradicating poverty.
Moreover, they command what is good—enjoining all that Allah has prescribed, from acts of worship to moral excellence, justice, kindness, and honesty—and they forbid what is evil, standing firmly against sin, oppression, corruption, and every form of transgression. They do not remain silent in the face of wrongdoing, nor do they compromise their principles for worldly gain.
Finally, the verse concludes with a profound reminder: "And to Allah belongs the final outcome of all matters." This means that regardless of how much power or authority humans may attain, the ultimate end of everything—success or failure, reward or punishment—rests solely with Allah. He alone decides the final destiny. Therefore, the believer never becomes attached to power for its own sake, but uses it as a means to please Allah, knowing that true success lies in the Hereafter.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
This verse is a beautiful and inspiring vision of leadership and responsibility. It teaches us that power is not a privilege to be enjoyed, but a trust to be fulfilled. Imagine a society where rulers establish justice, where wealth circulates fairly, where goodness spreads, and evil is uprooted—this is the society the Qur'an envisions. And this is not limited to rulers alone; every believer, in their own sphere of influence—whether in the home, the workplace, or the community—can embody these qualities. When you pray sincerely, give charity generously, and speak out against wrong with wisdom and kindness, you are living the spirit of this verse.
Dear reader, let this verse inspire you to be a source of goodness wherever you are. Know that Allah's promise is true: those who establish His religion will be established in the land, and the final victory belongs to the righteous. So strive, with patience and perseverance, and place your trust in Allah—for indeed, the best end is for those who are conscious of Him.
