Word Meanings:
- يُكَذِّبُوكَ (they deny you): They reject you and accuse you of falsehood.
- قَوْمُ نُوحٍ (the people of Noah): The nation to which Prophet Noah was sent.
- عَادٌ (ʿĀd): An ancient, powerful Arab tribe to which Prophet Hūd was sent.
- ثَمُودُ (Thamūd): Another ancient Arab tribe to which Prophet Ṣāliḥ was sent.
Explanation of the Verse:
O Messenger, if your people reject you and refuse to believe in the message you have brought, then do not let this grieve you or shake your resolve. You are not the first prophet to face such denial. Before your people, the people of Noah rejected their prophet, the tribe of ʿĀd rejected Hūd, and the tribe of Thamūd rejected Ṣāliḥ. Each of these nations was stronger, wealthier, and more established than your people, yet they all denied the truth that was brought to them. And what was their end? Allah did not hasten their punishment immediately; rather, He gave them respite and time to reflect and repent. But when they persisted in their arrogance and disbelief, He seized them with a severe punishment. Their power and might did not protect them, and their denial only brought about their destruction.
This verse carries a profound lesson of patience and perseverance for every believer. It reminds us that the path of truth has always been met with opposition, but the final victory belongs to Allah and His messengers. The stories of these nations are not merely historical accounts; they are living testimonies that falsehood, no matter how powerful it appears, is always doomed to perish, while truth, no matter how persecuted it seems, ultimately prevails. So take comfort, O believer, in the knowledge that Allah is fully aware of the plots of the deniers, and His justice is never delayed without wisdom. He gives them time, but He never forgets. And when His decree comes, no one can avert it. Let this strengthen your faith and fill your heart with certainty that the promise of Allah is true, and that patience in the face of hardship is the key to divine victory. Indeed, the Quran repeatedly consoles the Prophet and his followers with these stories, showing that the trials of the messengers are a means of elevating their ranks and purifying their mission. So stand firm, for the help of Allah is near, and the end is always for the righteous.
